We were extremely disappointed with just about every aspect of the Dream. This was the 4th cruise for two of the couples with us and this was our 2nd cruise. The other 2 couples have gone on Carnival twice and Royal one and we all were looking forward to Norwegian because we had heard that everything about Norwegian was a step up from anything we had ever been on. Thank heavens we were upgraded from the cabins we had originally booked... while the view was great with the large window, none of us have ever experienced a shower as small as the one in the bathroom -- to shave your legs you had to get out of the shower -- and while showering the shower curtain automatically wrapped around your body. The lack of storage (12 hangers for 2 people?? - get real!) was unbelievable -- 4 shelves that you had to lay on the floor to use -- the shelves at the end of the closet were too narrow to hold anything but socks and the 4 little drawers in the tv/stand - bookcase held very little -- no one on a cruise needs 8 books shelves -- they need drawers. If we were getting ready to go out it became a habit that whoever started to cross the room first got to walk on the floor -- the other person had to walk across the bed AND you had to shift sides of the room because the side of the room that had the closet, entry to bathroom and dressing table (another waste) could not accomodate 2 people at once. So much for the cabin.
We ate in the dining room every night -- we had one meal that might have passed for "warm"... this was not our waiter or busboy's fault.... the food was served immediately and the waiter and busboy and matre'd and wine steward were the highlight of the entire cruise -- as was our cabin steward. Breakfast buffets were a joke as were any of the gala buffet, chocolate feast etc. -- I've served better spreads on a spontaneous get together.
Like I said the waiter, busboy, matre'd etc. were charming, funny and POLITE -- this was not true for the remaining staff -- the reception desk was only staffed by extremely rude individuals that, if they honored you with an answer at all to a question it was curt and obviously a waste of their time.
We heard rumors that Norwegian was being taken over by Carnival cruise lines and perhaps the crew wasn't happy about it and if Carnival does take over we can certainly hope that they learn the meaning of courtesy and room layout.
