Luckily, you can make an experience good, even in a poor situation. The day
before we were to leave, we received a call stating the ship would be delayed
due to a "mechanical problem" and that we would be losing 1-2 ports of call (out
of four). We were told we would receive a $100 credit to our onboard account for
compensation. We were to take a 7 day cruise with ports of call at Cozumel,
Cancun, Roatan, and Belize. Immediately upon boarding we found we would lose
Cancun and Roatan. Tropical storm/hurricane Wilma then came around and we then
lost out on Belize (not NCL's fault). Then a passenger on board found a recycled
memo from the main office (in the restroom) stating that the reason we were
unable to go to Cancun and Roatan was due to a loss of engine on the ship since
June. We didn't have enough engine power to ever reach all 4 ports in the first
place! The most disturbing issue was that NCL contined to advertise and book
this cruise as a 7 day, 4 port cruise, all the while knowing they could never
accomplish that cruise without the engine.
Luckily, we were in a large group and were able to make our own fun. It would
have been a very long cruise otherwise. Out of the 1100 passengers, 875 signed a
petition to present to NCL's main office.
In regards to the crew, they were wonderful. I have nothing but great things to
say about all of them. The service was great. The food was fair. I did really
enjoy the freestyle dining experience. Our ship bill ended up higher than
expected, as we were onboard much, much longer. We ended up utilizing the spa
services and drinking more adult beverages than ever anticipated. Did I have a
good time? Yes. Will I cruise with NCL again? No. I don't trust them!
