My husband and I took our kids, five and seven on a cruise for the first time.
We had a wonderful time. The Jewel is a beautiful vessel, very clean and well
decorated. By far the prettiest of the three ships I have been on. The staff was
very friendly and always helpful. Both my kids loved the kids program, "kids
splash down". Especially my daughter. (thank you Animal, Ice cream, Diva and
Lolly pop-you're all awesome). The level at which they liked it shooked my
husband and I, when given the choice to be with us or go to splash down they
waved goodbye. It was nice, my husband and I were able to have time together
knowing how much fun they were having.
The food was great, The Chin Chin was the best Chinese I've had. Worth the extra
cover charge. All reservations were taken when we called, someone told us to go
just before they opened (they all open at 5:30)and we would get seated, that is
exactly what we did and had no problem. Of course, you need to be willing to eat
at 5:30. That was normal for us and our kids. Buffet was very good, always
consistant.
As simple as this may sound, I really appreciated the sanitizing hand machines
everywhere, very smart NCL. This should become mandatory on every ship.
As far as the ports go, Roatan was very poor, I wouldn't go back though I'm glad
my son got to see it. We spent very little time on Grand Cayman, just did a
little shopping. They have the same stuff every other island has. We went to
Margaritaville Resturaunt in Jamaica, that was fun. Personally, I like the ship
best when it is not crowded so in Port days are the best time to be by the pool.
Plus, I don't really love any of the Western island.
The entertainment was pretty good, not as good as the last cruise we took but
worth going to see. The comedy group was very talented and funny.
Embarkation was easy and fast.
The other thing I feel I should address is the fact that there was a suicide on
the ship the week we were on it, I'm very pleased to say we knew nothing about
it at the time. Some have said it should not have been hidden from the
passengers, I'm here to say I'm very pleased my vacation was not ruined by this
tragedy. Thanks NCL. I will definatly cruise with you again. Cindy
