This was my third cruise with NCL. My wife's is the 6th. We recommended this Cruise line to many of our friends, and always were happy with everything. We sailed on the Gem and Spirit before, and this was the first time on Jewel. Unfortunately, this cruise was the worst and very disappointing.

We reserved Le bistro the very first night. I was looking forward to some french food and good steak. It was a disappointment. Seams like the chefs forgot how to season the food. It was bland and dry, like it was seating on the plate for a while before serving.
Hibachi was OK, and the staff was very accommodating.
The best was Chin-Chin, the Asian fusion restaurant. Good variety and lots of flavors.

We staid in the balcony room. it was good, and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Hard working people doing excellent job.

Casino is a loosing place. Don't waste your money on slots. They just eat the 20 up within 15 minutes. Even blackjack for some reason everybody was loosing.
Great entertainment crew.

Do not book your shore excursions. Just take the taxi and go wherever you want. Much chipper. If you book with NCL, it is a rip off. Special word about the Great Stirrup Cay. It has a beautiful beach and worm water. The ship anchors nearby and passengers shuttled to the island using tenders (about 300-400 people each). We have been to this island with NCL before and it was great. However, on Jewel we waited for over an hour to get on the tender. We came to the island on the #6 tender. When we got on the beach, there were no beach chairs available anymore. This was never a problem before. As we walk around the beach, we found a rows of unoccupied beach chairs. However, we were told they are reserved for $30 a pair. I told the shore excursion manager Michaela Ungurianu that this is wrong. She would not listen to my argument and showed an attitude of the prison guard. she told me that if i don't like it i can go back on the ship, that she does not have to look for chairs etc. i was stunned. Never heard before thing like that from the NCL manager. She even threatened to call security if I took the reserved chairs. I walked away. When we got back on the boat i came to see the manger of Guest Services Andrea Simmons. She was very nice and was surprised and disappointed with her subordinate, and promised me that she will reprimand Michaela.
What realy happend here is the simple mafia style extortion of extra money from customers: first you create a shortage of chairs, then you start charging money for the same chairs. I could not belive this is happening. It was like slap in the face. This was the bigest disapointmet of the cruise. After that incident I refused to spend a single dime on board.

Good bye NCL. I don't think I will cruise with you in the forseeable future.
