Itinerary: Bermuda
The trip to Bermuda was wonderful and our time in Bermuda equally
satisfying. However, the events that took place after sailing for Boston on
Friday, October 22, 2004 were shocking.
At no time were we given information on what we were headed for – extremely high
wind and seas. The events that occurred during the next 72 hours have been well
documented in various television news stations. They included multiple injuries,
major damage to the ship and a 72 straight hours of sailing on a wounded vessel.
It was a serious mistake sailing into the storm, one that the Captain or cruise
line should face consequences for. We were witness to horrendous and terrifying
situations, including crew meltdowns, serious injuries and unwarranted, sheer
fear for our lives --certainly not what we expected when we booked our vacation.
Have you ever witnessed a cruise ship's window on deck 5 smash out from a wave
and the furniture and passengers go flying across the deck? One poor fellow got
46 stitches and others were writing letters to their children at home and
sealing them in plastic bags while they waited to board their lifeboats!
The shame of it is this... Had we been informed about the severe weather ahead,
before sailing from Bermuda, we surely would have opted to fly home and been
back safely in a few hours. I will NEVER cruise with this line again and if YOU
value your life I would steer clear of NCL.
