Itinerary: Western Caribbean
We left Charleston, SC an hour and a half late. The first night we dined, it was
so rough, that my wife couldn't eat. The third night was even rougher than the
first. We couldn't even walk on the top deck without holding on to each other.
We planned an excursion on Grand Cayman, but because of the swells, the ship had
to be repositioned in the harbor in order for the tenders to take us to shore.
But because of the major delay, we had to cancel our excursion. As far as the
excursions are concerned, if you don't book immediately, you don't get to go on
the one you want. When you look at the itinerary of the trip and they tell you
how much time you have on shore, you only really have about two-thirds of that
time because of all the wasted time in waiting to get off the ship. Never book a
cruise during spring break.
We had 400 kids under the kids' programs,
running around the ship....along with the college kids screaming in the hallways
at 2:00 in the morning. When it came time to get back on the ship after being in
Mexico, the drunk college kids were jumping the lines to get back on ship and
not waiting their turn. Security did nothing about this. When asked about
allowing this, they said that they were doing their best. We didn't like the
idea that the pools and hot tubs were shut down so that you couldn't use them
late in the evening. Anything that you wanted to do on ship, you had to wait in
line. Exiting the ship at the end of the cruise, Deck 3 was closest to the door
but the last to leave so it was almost 11:30 AM by the time we left the ship. We
had heard of other Norwegian cruise ships that gave special treatment for their
"turn-down" service, but all we got was one little candy. The pillows were so
skimpy, that we had to ask for second pillows. When we first arrived, the room
was so cold and we couldn't turn it down when we adjusted the thermostat. After
comparing photos from friends who cruised with Carnival...the interior of the
Majesty is very old and dull looking. The price of the photos was also way out
of line. Carnival pictures are much cheaper and just as nice, if not nicer.
Highlights of the cruise were the freestyle dining and the friendliness of all
the employees. We did enjoy all the sights that we saw on shore.
