Itinerary: Western Caribbean
My husband and I had a very nice time on this cruise because of the beautiful
ports the sea sailed to. The port in Houston is industrial and smells like
pollution. On the good side, parking was inexpensive at under $50 for seven
days. The ship itself was small but newly redone and clean. Our upgraded
stateroom was very tiny and decorated in late 80's style.
For the price of the cruise the food was good but quality could have been
improved. We were disappointed that juice was not available for free all the
time like it had been on carnival. All that was offered was either water or
tobacco tasting tea. I had a craving for ice cream on the first day and although
I knew they carried it in their freezer, no one would go to the freezer to get
me any.
The comedians were very funny. The casino was also great. We won a lot of money
on the slot machines and there was a good variety of machines. Some employees
were very friendly while others were grumpy like they did not like being there.
The kids program was horrible because there was no large play room for the kids.
The children played in the stair halls right outside our room at all hours of
the night.
We booked most excursions off the ship. In cozemel you could bargain for good
prices on souvenirs. We went on a glass bottom boat that took us snorkeling in
three different areas all for $25 a person.
Roatan was the nicest port. The island is not commercialized at all and
souvenirs are extremely cheap. Tabyana beach was beautiful but we could not
snorkel without running into people.
In Belize we booked a cave tubing excursion from a private tour for half of the
price charged by the cruise line. The tour was longer, we got to walk through
the caves, and our guide was excellent. The price also included an authentic and
homemade Belize meal.
In Cancun we had to take an hour long ferry ride just to get on land. This
didn't leave us much time to do anything. We were able to shop and eat lunch,
that is all.
Overall, the cruise itself was excellent for the price and is recommended for
bargain hunters. If you want space and luxury you might want to consider another
cruise. This cruise had a lot of younger people around our age (25-35) which
made it more lively.
