Itinerary: Western Caribbean
I decided to plan a cruise for my mom ( who always wanted to go on one) so I choose the sea.
Disembarkation:
We departed form Houston which was OK, they really need more staff at peak
hours, as there were very long lines. We were latitudes members and didn't have
a long wait time.
You definately can see some wear, but they keep the public areas clean.
Our room was a quad and was bigger than most, and even at that it was very small
and outdated. closets show wear and rust, mattresses were than but actually
slept fairly well.
We were in the front of the ship, and when docking thee was quite a bit of noise, and movement. Bets to get a room towards the mid ship area for a smoother ride and less noise. The public areas, lounges, restaurant were clean but also show wear. The spa is TOOOO small you feel cramped, and they had a nice spa menu, but only offered 1 or 2 things listed, I was quite disappointed, as I wanted a spa treatment.
Staff:
Our cabin steward ward very nice and kept our room clean and well stocked with
fresh towels, they were pleasant and friendly. The wait and server staff were
generally slow and frequently forgot things, i.e.; cheese plates or coffees, or
would bring one and not the rest of people drink orders. The entertainment was
generally good, the comedian was great, the other shows were good and they have
some very talented singers and dancers, ect. the one person who really stands
out and makes you feel welcomed and excited if KEVIN, the Sea really has a great
person in Kevin. Other outstanding personalities were Maddie the gal from
Romania, and the some of the people who put on the games.
PORTS:
Cozumel, is truly beautiful, the water is blue. My husband and brother went
fishing, pd $119 and got nothing, no bites, no fish, the crew didn't seem to
care, I went on the Passion Island and snorkeling, was great, Mom and aunt and
sister (my mom is in her 70's) went on the ocean view explorer and really liked
it, saw a lot of fish, and coral. The shopping is easy also.
Roatan: The area by the port is very depressing and poor. We went on the Tabyana Beach, where you have a nice buffet lunch and there is a nice beach with chairs, you can easily snorkel and see some pretty fish, was nice. The ride there has some nice scenery. My mom and aunt want on the Discovery Roatan, they had a nice A/C van and saw nice country side. They went on a boat ride and saw some animals. They also went to some farms and sampled local jellies, and saw the Carib Indians perform, which they enjoyed their excursion.
Belize: My husband and I went on the Shark Ray Alley, we really enjoyed and saw rays and sharks and a variety of corals and fish, at times you are close to the reef ,and the wave are pretty big, then we went into Ambergris Cay had lunch and had some leisure time to explore, the time to get there was an hour by high speed boat. Others in my family went on the Belize jungle air boat ride, they though it was really over priced and all they saw was a few gators.
We didn't get to port into Cancun due to high waves, was a sad thing, but I understood the safety issue. I thought most of the excursions were pricey. the port selection was very nice.
Overall my mom enjoyed her first cruise experience. The ship is small and old, the Staff is generally attentive to you needs, but were really didn't have any requests. They really messed up our excursion they were had sent in a month in advance, but it was fixed on the ship. I would go on another NCL cruise but would choose a new ship.
