We selected this cruise trip was because it's from/to NYC, where we live near by, no air needed. Went with 2 pre-teen kids and parents. All 6 of us were very disappointed.

The food was horrible. My kids had hard time to find anything to eat at lunch and breakfast, worse than buffet in supermarkets. Most staff on the ship were from the Philippines. I can't blame them not know how to make bread or Italy food. We had to wait for dinner to eat at speciality restaurants. Those restaurants were pretty good, cooked by professional chefs, but charge extra money.

It's not too bad.

The service people often looked tired and made you feel guilty to bother them. I heard that they work long time everyday. We had been with other cruise lines, like Royal Caribbean, several times. Never been disappointed and always felt like too much tasty foods for our too small stomach. The Doctor on the ship was unbelievably rude when we had health issue to see him.

I don't care about the free time dining style NCL promoted. On the other cruise ships, although your dinner time is fixed, you still can be arrive early or late, and you can eat buffet which usually is better than NCL's formal dinner. Don't waste your time and money on NCL.
