Norwegian Sun Cruise Review

Cruise Line: NCL
Ship: Norwegian Sun
Sailing Date: June 13th, 2004
Itinerary: Alaska

My wife and I had been on the NCL Sun about a year and a half prior to this cruise. We liked it, and thought it would be a good cruise to Alaska.

To make a long story short, the ship was not clean at all. It had a very unplesant smell throughout the ship...including the dining rooms. It was like sewage smell.

Our cabin was what we remembered, and our cabin steward was good. He took care of everything in the cabin for us.

The free style dinning was what we remembered, except that the food was not as good, infact...it was not good period. The dining staff was almost confused about what they were doing. The food was not hot at all. The steak I had was a flat chewey hunk of meat like you might see at a cheap steak joint down on main street USA. It was not anything like what I have had on my prior cruises. If there is one thing I know, it is steak!!! Beleive me, this was a cheap cut of meat and it tasted like it. My wife got fish the second night and it was cold and burnt. We tried the other dining room and it seemed to be about the same.

The Buffett was the sadest excuse for a buffett on any cruise I have beeen on. Bad selection, and it did not even look good. Half the time there were no plates and trays at the start of the line. If you wanted to sit down, forget it. I think many folks got tierd of the dining rooms and went to the buffett only to be disappointed again.

The ports were good. I think the best part of the ports was being able to get off the ship for a while. I have never felt this way on a cruise before.

The staff onboard (except for the cabin stewart) was cold and almost resentful that we were there. This was the talk of the ship. So many folks mentioned this. I thought it was me.
The entertainment was OK in the main show room, but the other bands onboard were terrible. It was a joke.

The worst part about it is that we had contacted NCL as soon as we got off the ship, sent them letters as directed, and we have heard nothing. My travel agent sent a letter and has called them and he has not received anthing back yet, even after 4 messages. It is clear that NCL just has lost it. Plain and simple, hey just do not care about what the passengers say or how their cruise went. Every time I would talk to a crew member about a problem, it ws like oh gosh, we have never ever had a complaint before. We are surprised. Their customer service in Florida is exactly the same. They act like you are the first person to ever have a problem or not be happy with something. THeir attitude stinks.

Overall, if you want a good fun, and worthwhile cruise, stay away from NCL. SO many people on our cruise, and on the cruise just before us had horror stories to tell.
I would not recommend NCL to anybody looking for a cruise. I was looking for a good Mass Market cruise experience, but what we got was below what one would expect at motel 6.

Bad food, bad service, bad customer relations, and a ship that stinks with a foul smell. Sound Good? If so, sail NCL!
