Itinerary: Western Caribbean
We sailed on the NCL Sun on New Years Day of 2005 from Miami. The embarkation
was wonderful. We were registered within 5 minutes & on the ship at Noon.
We had a balcony room on Deck 9. It was spectacular. I loved the mats on the
floor of the balcony & throughout the outside decks (prevents slipping). I also
loved the rails on the balcony. We have always sailed on Royal Caribbean before
& they have full glass panels blocking the view if you are sitting down on the
balcony. NCL Sun has a normal see thru rail. Wonderful views!
The ship was very, very clean & all decorated for Christmas. We had some
beautiful formal pictures with the XMas tree & all. The photography staff was
wonderful. Gilbert took great care of us!
The service on The Sun was the best ever! We never ever had to wait for a drink
whether it be poolside at Sea days, or even at the shows. The service is non
stop & always willing to please.
The food was good. Some nights we didn't care for the main dining choices so we
ate at The Bistro (French) their food was great! We all loved it! When we ate at
the buffet some nights the food there was good as well. Occasionally we had some
foods that were a little overcooked/dry. But for the most part no complaints at
all.
We all really enjoyed the free style experience. We chose when & where we wanted
to eat. This is the best. Never had to wait, just walked in & were sat within 5
mins each time. There were only 4 of us but still we figured we'd have a wait
sometimes & never did!
The islands were great, we relaxed at each one & did our own thing. We shopped,
took beach breaks & relaxed & saw the islands this time. In the past we have all
always done excursions, so we tried it on our own this time & had a blast!
The room stewards are the best. Very friendly, impeccable service anywhere you
go on board & the Cruise Director Colin is hysterical. The shows were great, the
dances & bingo were great & a ton of stuff to do on The Sun!
Not enough time to do it all.
Debarkation was the best we've ever had. Just walked off the ship & our luggage
was there & went thru customs at the Miami pier. EASY! Our limo was there when
we got outside & we were off!
Negatives- At sea days we wished there were a few more activities to watch. We
are used to the big Royal Caribbean ships & at sea days they are always doing
something poolside. The Sun needs a few more activities than just the Mr Sexy
Legs contest & more music playing also. They had a band that played (very good)
but they only played for about an hour all day. (The other band (Zanzee band)
played all over the ship & they were wonderful. A definate Stevie Nicks sound a
like!)
Also we wished there had been more strictness about the children using the hot
tubs. They would invade all 4 hot tubs & us 4 adults could never get in them.
Other complained about this while on board also. The pools were great though.
All in all we all said we'd goon NCL again in the future. We love Royal
Caribbean but this was a tie for sure! Don't miss it! The Sun was a great ship &
I would highly recommend it to anyone!
PS- The Sun's balcony rooms have more storage than any Royal Caribbean balcony
rooms & also have Coffee pots!
