Although the flight we had to take to arrive in Fort Lauderdale, via Charlotte,
was smooth enough, the lack of a non-stop flight was somewhat of a problem
because of needing oxygen. You might be better off making your own arrangements
for flights depending on where you live. When we arrived at the airport, the
person monitoring the passengers for the Sun was a tremendous help and pretty
much stayed with my wife and i until we boarded the bus. This care was repeated
during the entire trip including aboard ship. Just as Bob Erickson reported, i
had never gotten so many smiles and hellos as i did on this trip but i have had
the close experience on each of my 3 cruises with Norwegian. I have made 3
cruises with friends and for my wife and i the experience is great. Because of
needing oxygen 24/7 and needing a cart for mobility (my wife refused to push a
wheelchair on this one) we required a handicapped cabin and the size was
unbelievable as i could turn the scooter around inside. Everywhere we went
onboard we received gracious treatment from the staff. I have always had great
meals on the ships and the Sun was the same, The Freestyle suits our group as
non of us like getting dressed to the nines for dinner but they do have a formal
night on the Sun in the Four Season dining room and ask those who do not dress
formally to eat in the Seven Seas dining room.
Because of tenders i could not take shore excursions but my wife did and was
very happy with her choice especially the Sting Ray Tour. I would advise anyone
with a wheelchair or a scooter to leave the ship at Cozumel and take the bike
ride into town (a very short distance) that is offered by many men just as you
leave the ship. That will free you to leave the scooter or wheelchair on board
and still visit the stores near the dock. All of my friends said that there are
no real highlights but they did not visit the Mayan ruins.
Because the cruise officers asked me to change cabins because they needed to
make repairs to the one i had, they offered dinner at Le Bistro and a bottle of
wine which we accepted and found the Restaurant to have class and maybe a little
better food but i would no pay $15 extra for it because the food is great.
The shows started with a preview on the first night and each night was a real
treat with the cast having tremendous talent.
My wife and i and our friends were looking for a great cruise with good food,
good shows and a clean ship. We found this on the Sun as we were not interested
in gourmet eating, sports, spas or any other such amenities and we found what we
wanted at a reasonable price.
After the cruise we boarded the bus for Miami Int'l and when we got to the
airport the representative for the cruise line stayed with me and my wife until
we reached our gate, gave us good advice for future trips and helped circumvent
some of the hold ups along the way.
I may not take another cruise but if i do it will undoubtedly be on Norwegian
