Itinerary: Hawaii
This was our first cruise, and overall, we were
very disappointed. The ship, as a whole, was old, smelly and rather nondescript.
We went on a 14 day Hawaiian cruise. We could, not, however, avoid the smell of
excrement and diesel fuel which assailed our nostrils at most turns.
We did meet some extremely pleasant workers, although, this was rare. NCL's new
concept "freestyle cruising" has each passenger's tips automatically built in.
That is, you pay an additional $10 per person, per day to go into a "tip kitty"
for all the workers. Therefore, you do not have the option of rewarding
extremely nice and courteous workers. Also, we were told as were other
passengers by several of the employees that they do not even receive these tips!
Therefore, the employees have no incentive to provide super service.
We were disappointed by the lack of quality food (and we are not big "eaters"),
and the overall attentive service we were lead to believe we would receive. For
example, no little folded animals made out of towels on this cruise... No drink
service by poolside - you have to get up and climb three decks to fetch your own
drinks.
Overall condition of ship is poor, carpets need replaced and are quite smelly,
gym equipment is broken and needs serviced. Overall quality of food is poor - I
lost over 2 pounds on cruise.
Although the fare may seem enticing, do not book on the NCL Wind if you are
looking for a quality cruise.
Port calls of Maui and Kauai are the best. Snorkeling at each location is
marvelous. There are many unique art galleries on Maui. Well worth the visit.
Also, while on Maui visit Cheeseburger in Paradise as you will be hungry if
you're on this ship! If you're up for an adventuresome trip, take the all day
Waimea Canyon 4 wheel drive tour. Bumpy at the beginning, but a great way to
spend the day. Excellent tour guides all around for each and every day trip.
