This was our first cruise and were delighted with the Norwegian Wind experience.
Embarkation was busy, but we only waited about 15 minutes in line before being
all checked in and on the way to our room. We dropped off our bags and headed up
on the top deck to explore.
NCL has adopted “freestyle cruising” which means you can basically eat when and
where you want. The food in the main dining rooms was good, but unimaginative.
Portions were small by traditional restaurant standards. Very little seafood was
served. Dress was resort casual for dinner which meant “dockers & polo shirts”.
There was one optional dressy evening in only one of the dining rooms. There
were many on deck BBQs which were good for the most part. There was a midnight
chocolate buffet which had 1,000 in line for the buffet so opted to pass on
that.
The room (oceanview stateroom) was of nice size with a huge window. There was a
little love seat and two chairs in front of that. There were two closets with
hanger space and drawers in them. The bathroom was small, but had nice corner
shelves to place your things on. The shower was small but had great water
pressure. The room was cleaned immaculately every morning and beds turned down
every evening.
The staff of the ship were extremely friendly and helpful. Even though they were
international in origin, all spoke English very well and always went out of
their way to be helpful. Activities were almost limitless and varied. From
discos to quiet piano bars to elaborate shows, there really is something for
everyone.
We visited Grand Cayman, Roatan, Belize, and Cozumel. Only disappointment was
Grand Cayman shopping was pathetic.
We had to pay for soda, bottled water, and of course drinks but the prices were
fair ($1.50 for a can of coke) and the drinks were strong. Also..we brought way
too many clothes. That have shipboard laundry (they are good and fast) and
prices are competitive with hotel laundry and dry cleaning.
We would definitely cruise on the Norwegian Wind again!
