This was our first cruise and we were very disappointed. The food was very poor quality and changed only slightly on the buffet in 7 days. The staff was not knowledgeable or helpful. In fact, many were unfriendly unless trying to sell you an overpriced drink. They offered juice but it was more like colored water and fresh squeezed juiced was available if you wanted to pay extra. Everything was extra; they nickel-and-dimed you to death. We talked with many other passengers who agreed that service was not a priority on this cruise. Pools and hot tubs were overcrowded. We paid extra for the spa and were glad we did, so we could get in a jacuzzi. The last day while on their private island a storm came up as we waited to board the tenders. The crew announced that the next tender would be for provisions not passengers. They left us out in the storm because the provisions were more important that the passengers. This announcement was met with loud boo's but they seemed not to care. It was pretty much their attitude the whole cruise.

Food was mostly burgers, hot dogs, pasta, and pizza on the buffet daily. All cuts of meat were the poorest quality you can buy. My husband is in the food service industry and so he knows food well. On lobster night we received HALF a very small lobster-more like a prawn. The shrimp cocktail contained 2 shrimp! Even the one night we ate in a specialty restaurant that cost more it was not good food. The desserts were all jello or pudding type. Never enough seats in the buffet area. Also there was a very bad smell right inside the buffet are by the soup wells. It smelled like the sewer was backed up. It made me sick every time I entered the buffet area if I did not hold my breath and hurry by.

Our stateroom was small but okay. The room stewards we had were about the only friendly crew we encountered and they did a good job keeping our room clean. However both rooms on each side of us were smokers so each time we tried to enjoy our balcony we were smothered in smoke!

The nightly shows were good and about the only FREE activity you get. I can play Wii at home. We went on a cruise for a different experience not to do the things we can do at home. All of the demo activities cost extra so we opted not to do them.

We did all our excursions on our own and glad we did. We had a great time doing some of the same things NCL offered at a much better price.

Everyone had told us once we took a cruise we would be hooked. Obviously they had not been on the NCL Pearl. We have no plans to take another cruise anytime soon and we will definitely never cruise NCL AGAIN.
