I like NCL's "freestyle". No dressing for dinner unless you want to. Go to the dining room when you want and sit with or without whom you want.

The quality and variety of food was less than I expected. They are really pushing the specialty restaurants. The food served in those restaurants were of the same quality presentation as you used to get in the main dining room. I guess they make up for where they cut back in fares, because by the time you pay for the specialty dining rooms you've made up for the differences in cheaper fares. The breakfast and lunch menus in the main dining room were the same everyday (7 day cruise). The dinner menus's changed somewhat, but not by much. Not much of a variety. The buffet was ALWAYS crowded and since it was an Alaskan cruise, you couldn't really sit outside so you were always walking around with a plate of food looking for somewhere to sit. I wouldn't call it 24 hour food service as the only other choice when the buffet was closed was the Blue Lagoon, and the only thing palatable there was fish and chips.

Stateroom was adequate and clean. However I did notice a rustling of paper when opening drawers and looked to see what it was in case it was something of mine and that there was a junk stuck behind from former tenants. The pillows smelled. The steward was pretty attentive, but I had to ask for ice several times.

The onboard activities were pretty much the same as any other cruise ship. Nothing new here.

Excursions were great, had one cancelled because of weather and received a full refund.

For the most part the attitude of most of the crew was good. There were a few that could stand improvement. The hostess in the main dining room thought she was captain and running the ship and the passengers and most smiled because you know they had to.

I would try NCL again because I like the "freestyle". This is my second cruise with them, the first was great (Western Mediterranean) Norwegian Gem, but this one not as good.
