Our primary purpose was relaxation and quiet for a week prior to a business engagement on Oahu. We were happy to see a little of several islands, although we had visited them all previously except Kauai. The advantage of the cruise, for us, was not having to pack/unpack, being able to sit in the sun or on our balcony, eat when and where we wanted, and watch for scenic views, whales, and shoreline. We were not interested in any of the entertainment except possibly a movie and a couple evenings of paying extra for the ship's fancy restaurants. We got plenty of exercise walking on the decks, if nothing else. People who like casinos, music entertainment, jazz or pop music, and similar activities would enjoy NCL. We avoided most noisy situations and could hear nothing whatever inside our cabin. Storage was adequate, as was the small bathroom (people who are overweight might not be happy with the size of the bathroom). The beds were comfortable, we had brought a computer with numerous peripherals, so our electrical needs were supplied. My only complaint was that the air-conditioning in the buffet dining area was so high that I could not eat there because it was too cold. Fortunately, we took our food onto the open air tables in the back, where we could enjoy the sea and sun. One of the buffet servers was rude, but otherwise we had no complaints about staff. We have never taken a different kind of cruise, so we don't know whether we'd like assigned seating or assigned dinner times (probably not).

No complaints.

OK.

Depends on your tastes.

Our one guided tour to the top of Mauna Loa was run by a driver, not an expert on either volcanos or atmospheric research. We felt the trip was a waste of money.

At Kauai we got off and rented a car. We went to Kauai's answer to the Grand Canyon (gorgeous), did some shopping, drove around a got a sense of the island. A lot cheaper and more satisfactory than paying for a guided tour.
