We booked this cruise for our 30th wedding anniversary. We left February 13th
and returned February 20th 2005.Unfortunately we did not check these reviews
prior to booking.
Check in was smooth and efficient. We found our room (with a balcony) to be
clean and well prepared.
The room was on the small side the drawer space left much to be desired. My wife
had enough room for her things and I had to live out of my suit case. Our cabin
steward did a very good job.
The on board entertainment was fairly good.
The food service was below par. The Hakilau Café was a disgrace the food was
consistently cold. The coffee pot in the morning was not serviced. They had a
problem getting cups out for the coffee. The staff walked by dirty tables 2 or 3
times and you had to finally stop someone to get them to bus the table. The 2
dining rooms had the same entries everyday and we were not impressed with their
selections. We would have preferred that they offered different entries in each
dining room. We did not try the specialty restaurants (we refused to use them,
as we feel cruises are meant to all-inclusive)
We went to 2 deck BBQ’s and they had a good selection of items to chose from,
unfortunately that food was, also cold. The other problem if you come back from
a tour late as we did your only option was room service.
The room service was fast and efficient with limited menu options. There was
supposed to be food all day until 3 AM at the Long boards Bar, but we could not
find any food there. We asked the cabin steward and she asked a couple of her
co-workers and nobody knew anything about Long boards bar having food.
We purchased 6 tours although pricy most were very good. The best was on Kahului
we took the “Road to Hana” tour and we had a great bus driver/guide his name was
Merle. He was the shining spot of our whole cruise. We also had the misfortune
of breaking down on the last tour. We were supposed to do Pearl Harbor &
Honolulu City tour. We did get to Pearl Harbor and the bus broke down in the
Punch Bowl we never did see the City Tour part of the tour. It was a fitting end
to the worst cruise we’ve been on. This was our 5th Cruise and we thought this
was the worst of the group. I did send a letter 2 months ago to NCL with no
response as of this time. I will not go on another NCL Cruise.
