Pride of Aloha Cruise Review
Airport greeting: At the Honolulu airport, there were Pride of Aloha representatives greeting people. when we contacted them, they said our names were not in their list, so they will not pick us or drive us to the Hotel. We did book our flight tickets and our Hotel (Waikiki Beach Marriott) ourselves. Airport pick-up and drop-off should be a courtesy. However, we would have willingly paid another $20 for the airport pick-up but the pick-up staff wouldn't let us. We ended up paying $10 each to get ourselves to the hotel by bus.
At the Waikiki beach Marriott hotel, there is an NCL office where we got our registration etc. We wanted to leave our baggage with them but they made us run around dragging our baggage and finally made us leave it in an area from where all other pride of Aloha baggage was supposedly going to be. Our baggage was never loaded on the ship was and did not reach us till the end of the first day of cruise. The staff was very nice, helpful but not very efficient. NCL gave us a $200 credit for the screw-up.
Food: The food was quite good in the
dining hall, the service was faster in Crossings than Palace. We didn't like the
Hikulau cafe food much, though the coffee and tea were good. Vegetarians,
beware. All vegetarian soups were made in chicken/beef stock in the dining hall.
My husband (vegetarian) had a miserable food experience.
Entertainment: OK to Good.
Shore excursions: Na Pali explorer was very good. Captain Tara carried several vegetarian sandwiches. Snorkeling is really the best in Hanauma Bay, Oahu but this option was not available to us since we boarded in Oahu. Hilo tropical garden and volcano hikes were good. 'Lahaina on your own' is an excellent option. We didn't do the Lu'au. In my opinion, education/options to do things on your own should be included in the shore excursions.
Housekeeping: Very Good, They must do something about the smell in the hallways.
Staff: nice, polite but looked very tired. Everyone was yawning all the time.
Shopping on the cruise: Disappointing.
Overall: 3.5 stars out of 5 stars.
