Itinerary: Hawaii
The reason our itinerary didn't go as planned is because, the ship hit a booey
leaving the port of Honolulu and ended up dragging it all the way to Maui. This
caused major damage to one of the propellers on the ship and it took divers 1
day to remove the propeller and then 1 day for the Coast Guard to come and
inspect the ship so we could depart. Now you would think that NCL would have
informed us of this problem when we got to Maui, but they did not. We were not
told until the morning before we were supposed leave for Hawaii.
The only compensation NCL offered us was $100 per cabin credit, and
complimentary drinks for 1 hour the night before disembarkation. The only
problem was is that they only opened up one bar and you could imagine the mad
dash of 2000 people trying to get there one free drink before the hour was up.
There were over 800 passengers who met two times to discuss how poorly NCL had
dealt with there problems. Each time we requested that NCL compensate us with a
50% refund or a free cruise in the future. Our request was denied both times.
Instead we got a letter saying that were supposed to write our concerns to them
when we got home. I think this is sort of a divide and conquer type tactic and
none of us will probably ever see a penny.
As for the crew members, friendly some of them, the photo gallery people were
very rude to us when we tried to get the free picture we were promised in the
romance package we bought.
The freestyle dining is ok if you like to book all your reservations when you
get on the ship, keep in mind that you have to pay for all of the specialty
restaurants, except for Little Italy.
Little Italy was a very good restaurant, I wasn't impressed with Skyline or the
Aloha cafe. Le Bistro was good but way over priced. The Aloha cafe ended up
being a glorified hometown buffet at sea.
The 2 ports we did visit were beautiful, I would recommend getting a rental car
at each one and not getting the shore excursions just because they are so
overpriced. We heard a lot of people complaining about how they did not get
there money's worth on the shore excursions. Be sure to book your rental car in
advance. At every port they were usually sold out and if they weren't they
wanted to charge you a small fortune for the cars that they did have.
I strongly recommend renting snorkel gear and finding your own spots. The best
snorkeling we found was in Kauai, at the Lygate beach park and at Poipu beach.
Be sure to purchase your underwater disposable camera's prior to coming to
Hawaii, they are $10-22.00 depending where you are on the islands.
Over all we were extremely disappointed with this cruise, simply because we
missed on who island that was on our itinerary and had to be at sea during the
day because of the problem with the ship.
This was my honeymoon and was supposed to be the most beautiful and romantic
trip of my life, thanks to NCL it was not.
