Itinerary: Reposition-San Juan to NYC
The Golden Princess is the largest ship we have sailed, coming close with
the Summitt and Infinity. First thing we noticed up embarkation (which
went quite well) were dirty windows...in almost all public areas.
...Now that was not the case the last cruise with Princess, before they
became part of Carnival. Princess was always incredibly clean.
...Our room was fine, medium size on the Lido deck forward, w/ a balcony.
...The itinerary was ok...St Thomas is what it is. St Marteen is a nice
island, been there many times. Antigua is not one of our favorites... The
ocean days were great until we hit the "storm of storms" north of the
Sargasso Sea (the wonderful Atlantic). We spent an extra day on the ocean,
just bobbing around. However I must say the crew was outstanding, they
were very attentive, most likely feeling sorry for a bunch of passengers,
many of whom spent a day losing the food they had put away just a few
hours before. But that is the chance you take.
...We had a great room steward. A very good waiter (waitress) and the
Cruise Director was good, not great.
...Princess just is not what it was. Princess it seems is a Carnival ship
in a gown and tuxedo...only they are rented. Celebrity is light years
ahead. HAL is better than Princess, but since Carnival bought them, they
too have lost some luster.
...Surprisingly, I think NCL is still a good line. They are kind of funky,
but for a real discounted cruise line, they are much better than Carnival
and I think every bit as good as Princess.
...If I had my druthers, give me Celebrity. We will pay the extra dough
and feel like we are on a first class ship. That is why we have gone on 8
cruises on Celebrity ships. Soon, we will go on our first RCCL.
...The Golden Princess was a good cruise. A good ship. Good food and Good
entertainment. Nothing was better than that. But for the money, it was a
"Good Time". The ocean is a wonderful place to be (most of the time)...
Bon Voyage.
