Sapphire Princess is the 6th in a series of ships
that were once the largest in the world. Sapphire Princess is the second
Princess ship to be built in a Japanese shipyard and she takes her place with the other
5 Grand Class ships. One unique thing about the Sapphire Princess is that she is lacking the familiar "wing or
spoiler" that are featured on the first four Grand Class ships.

Excerpts from Princess' Website
about the Sapphire Princess
The largest natural blue sapphire will be showcased
in Seattle as part of the festivities surrounding the launch of Princess
Cruises' newest ship, Sapphire Princess. The 28-pound, football-sized Millennium
Sapphire, which has only been seen by a select few since its 1995 discovery in
Madagascar, will be displayed on the ship for guests aboard Sapphire Princess'
June 10th naming celebration. The 116,000-ton vessel, the first-ever cruise ship
to be christened in Seattle, is the last in an unprecedented series of three
ships launched by the line since February, and will be home-ported in Seattle
for the summer.
