Ship: Star Princess
Sailing Date: December 7, 2002
Itinerary: Mexican Riviera
First let me say that we have cruised several other lines, so I feel like this is a fair comparison. We arrived around 12:00 to check in and were aboard ship before 1:00.It was smooth and very professional.
We went straight to our rooms and we quite surprised to see how much room there was! We had a standard outside room, and there was sooo much storage space! Next we went to see the Matre'd to change from Personal Choice to assigned seating. We have found that with Personal Choice dining that the service is terrible! The 1st and 2nd seating was already full, however they assigned us a permanent table for 6 at 6:30 in the Portifino dining room. Our waiter Andre was exceptional! He showed us so much TLC we felt like the rich and famous. He catered to our every need, always making a fuss over us. The only real problem was that the food is mediocre at best. A real disappointment on such a nice ship, with a 5 star rating. We felt the food was the only real drawback of the cruise.
I have read on a few reviews that the service wasn't up to par on the Star, and I must strongly disagree. After being on Carnival, Celebrity, NCL, and RCCL, I feel that the service on this ship is so superb!!! Every single person working on this ship is top trained and ALWAYS ready to help with anything they can. The cruise director is fantastic, the dance instructor, Sly, is wonderful, Katherine the arts director is sooo sweet...and so on and so on. We felt like we were treated so graciously. And there was almost never anything being sold in a pushy, ugly way. Pictures were only taken getting on and off the ship, and on formal nights when you asked for them to be taken.
We really loved all the pampering and personal attention this HUGE ship is able to offer. The spa and Gym area alone make you feel like you are in a resort spa retreat.
We will be sailing Princess again soon, only hoping that they improve the food some. The good news is none of us gained any weight this time, so maybe food shouldn't be the main reason to go anyways!
