I only wish I had gone to this website previously and had read other reviews of this cruise. This was our third cruise and they all have been with Princess. Our first cruise was 10yrs. ago, then 5, and just recently (Dec. 26, 2004 thru Jan. 2, 2005.) The first two were wonderful trips; however, this experience was one we do not ever wish to repeat. The only thing we can figure out is that the sale of this cruise line to Carnival has been the downfall.
Absolutely have to agree with previous reviews that the food was quite inferior. Also, it was very frustrating having additional fees added on to so many different things like drinks as well as eating in one of the select restaurants.
The staff left a lot to be desired. It was posted that a snorkeling excursion in St. Thomas was full. However, when speaking to other passengers who went on that, we found out only 11 out of the 33 spaces were taken. Apparently, no effort was made from a member of the excursion staff to contact those passengers on the waiting list. Also, when my husband and daughter went on a snorkeling excursion in Nassau, there were approx. 75 people on that boat. This was three times the amount of people on any snorkeling excursion we had ever had. It was an absolute waste of money and time because there were to many people and too much waiting around. Plus food and drink were extra where in the past they had been all part of the excursion fee.
Last of all, disembarkation was a nightmare! For starters, we were given the wrong color luggage tags the night before. Fortunately, another member in our party had different color tags and went up to the Pursers office to inquire and brought us the correct tags since we were to be first off the ship. All the passengers were told to be in the atrium for disembarkation at 8:30am. Disembarking did not take place til 9:45am. There was no place to sit down and it was obvious several of the senior citizens were having difficulty. The only announcement during that time was when the staff made announcements for specific people to come to the pursers desk to straighten up their accounts. During that entire time, there was not one announcement made about why the long wait and to explain to the passengers what was going on. When they finally called for certain tags to disembark the ship, it was like a giant mob scene. A fellow passenger had to yell for people to let those passengers thru because everyone was so angry and just wanted off the ship. Where was the staff and why was everyone in one area and all at the same time for disembarkation?
We will never travel with this cruise line again. It is so disorganized and so understaffed that there have to be better cruise lines to travel with.
