We just returned from a wonderful 7 day cruise on the Star Princess. I am 50 and
my husband is 56. High winds cancelled one of our ports, but did not effect our
overall enjoyment of the trip.
We flew from Detroit to FLL on Saturday and took a cab to the Holiday Inn Beach
Hotel. The cab fare was more than we expected at $27. We enjoyed the view of the
ocean and the pizza at Primanti’s one block away, but next time we will stay at
Holiday Inn Express which is much closer to the port.
Sunday we took a cab for $20 to the port at 11 a.m. Embarkation went well and we
were in our balcony room on the Aloha deck by noon. After a buffet lunch we went
to the gym for a ˝ hour on the treadmill. The rest of the day we re-explored the
ship (we were on the Star last year), had dinner at the Capri, and went for a
late evening soak in the hot tub.
During the week we participated in several ship activities. We went to ballroom
dance lessons with Peter that were fun and informative. We had a blast at the
“Majority Rules” game, the Country Western party at the Explorer, the “Marriage
Game” and Island Night. We went to several movies, the best being “Flight Plan”
with Jodie Foster. All sea days we went to the gym in the afternoon to avoid the
crowds.
Most nights we reserved a table for two at 6 p.m. at the Capri. Two nights we
went to the buffet. This worked out especially well the night the buffet was
carving prime rib as I love this dish, but don’t want to order a full portion at
the dining room.
At Cozumel I highly recommend the excursion to X-Caret if you like snorkeling.
We did the underground river snorkeling and it was great. Afterwards we enjoyed
lunch and beer on the beach, then viewed the Mayan Village and animal exhibits.
Don’t forget to take Dramamine before the ferry ride to the main land if
seasickness is an issue for you.
We sailed by Grand Cayman due to high winds, but Princess quickly added new
daytime activities to make our sea day more enjoyable.
At Montego Bay we did the Catamaran Snorkel and Doctor’s Cove Beach tour. The
snorkeling was great. At the beach we enjoyed a beer and relaxation.
We have already booked our next cruise to the Mexican Riviera on the Sapphire
Princess. I can’t wait!
