CRUISE REVIEW OF "THE WORLD" AUGUST 20TH-AUGUST 25TH.

MONDAY 19TH AUGUST.
FLY RYAN AIR FROM STANSTEAD TO DUBLIN. FLIGHT WAS ON TIME. ON ARRIVAL IN DUBLIN GOT ON WRONG BUS AND TOOK A LONG TIME TO GET TO GUEST HOUSE.

TUESDAY 20TH AUGUST.
HAD A LOVELY IRISH BREAKFAST (BACON AND EGGS). CHECKED OUT OF GUEST HOUSE, GOT DART TRAIN TO CONNELLY STN FOLLOWED BY TAXI TO DUBLIN HBR. LUGGAGE WAS TAKEN TO MY SUITE, WHILE I CHECKED IN AT RECEPTION, AS I DO NOT HAVE A CREDIT CARD I SAID I WOULD BE PAYING BY T/CHEQUE. I WAS TAKEN TO MY SUITE, NO SIGN OF STEWARDESS AT THIS POINT. MY LAST CRUISE ON RCCL I HAD TO FIND MY OWN WAY TO MY CABIN. MY SONATA SUITE WAS JUST AS I REMEMBERED ON MY SHIP VISIT IN LONDON, MY SOFA WAS THE BETTER ONE. I REMEMBER THE SPACE BETWEEN DRAWERS AND BED WAS SMALL, BUT IT WASN'T A PROBLEM FOR ME. I WENT TO THE MARINA RESTAURANT FOR LUNCH, I HAD TIGER PRAWNS, OXTAIL SOUP, SIRLOIN STEAK WELL COOKED AND CRÈME BRULEE WHICH WAS SO GOOD I HAD IT QUITE A FEW TIMES. THEN I RETURNED TO MY SUITE WHERE I FOUND MY LUGGAGE WHICH I THEN UNPACKED. LOOKED AT MY FREE MINI BAR HAD GIN AND TONIC, SURPRISED THAT THE VODKA, WHISKY AND GIN WERE IN MINIATURE BOTTLES. I THEN BOARDED THE FREE SHUTTLE BUS TO DUBLIN CITY WHERE I LOOKED ROUND THE SHOPS. THE ONLY COMPLAINT SO FAR WAS THE SHORE EXCURSIONS THE BANQUET IN DUBLIN HAD ALREADY BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO LACK OF INTEREST, LIKEWISE ONE OF DUBLIN AND THORSHAVN WHICH WAS THE ONE I WAS GOING TO TAKE LEAVING JUST HIGHLIGHTS WHICH WERE NOT WORTH TAKING. I RETURNED FROM DUBLIN HAD DINNER AT TIDES THEY SAID DID I HAVE A RESERVATION? I UNDERSTOOD YOU ONLY HAD TO RESERVE AT EAST AND PORTRAITS, DESPITE THEY BEING ALMOST EMPTY, NOTICED THIS IN ALL RESTAURANTS EXCEPT PORTRAITS. HAD MONKFISH WHICH DID NOT SUIT MY STOMACH AS I FELT QUITE ILL AFTER IT. AFTER DINNER WENT TO THE CIGAR ROOM FOR CIGAR AND COGNAC VERY NICE.

WEDNESDAY 21ST AUGUST. IN DUBLIN.
AFTER A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP, I AWOKE TO CHIMES AT MY DOOR. MY BREAKFAST HAS ARRIVED AT THE TIME I ASKED FOR. ALL I ASKED FOR WAS THERE. FOUND THERE ARE 2 SETTINGS FOR LIGHTS IN SUITE, COULDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY WERE LOW, THOUGHT THERE WAS A POWER PROBLEM, IF I SAW THE STEWARDESS I'D HAVE MENTIONED THIS BUT I DIDN'T, I'M SURE I HAD A CD OF KYLIE BUT FOUND ONE OF UB40 INSTEAD NOT SAYING IT WAS THE STEWARDESS BUT I WONDER. WHEN I WAS ON "ALBATROSS" SOME YEARS AGO I'M SURE THE CABIN STEWARD TOOK SOME OF MY FOOD I BOUGHT IN CHERBOURG. TOOK SHUTTLE FOR CITY AFTER BREAKFAST AND TOOK CITY BUS TOUR FOR 10 EUROS WHICH WAS GOOD. WENT TO ART GALLERY AND JAMISON DISTILLERY WHICH WERE GOOD WHERE I GOT A FREE SAMPLE AND BOUGHT A BOTTLE. RETURNED TO THE SHIP FOR AFTERNOON TEA AND CAKES A NICE TOUCH ON A TROLLEY. HAD BATH WITH CHAMPAGNE A LOVELY IDEA, COULDN'T FIND BUTTON TO RAISE THE BLINDS IN THE BATHROOM. HAD DINNER IN EAST, HAD A LITTLE TROUBLE USING CHOPSTICKS. SHANGHAI ROLLS, TOM TOM SOUP VERY DIFFERENT, AND CRISPY DUCK AND STEAMED RICE. AND SAKE LOVELY MEAL. FINISHED OFF THE DAY WITH VISIT TO CIGAR ROOM. WENT ONTO INTERNET BUT AT 75C A MINUTE WITH MOUNTED TO 9.75.WE LEFT DUBLIN AT 8PM ON OUR WAY AT LAST.

THURSDAY 22ND AUGUST. AT SEA
HAD BREAKFAST IN TIDES, SMOKED SALMON OMELETS, BACON, SAUSAGE. LOVELY. IT'S QUIET EVEN AT THIS TIME. AT 11AM HAD FIRE DRILL WHICH WAS THE MOST INTENSE ONE I'VE EVER DONE, EVEN A SAFETY BRIEFING AFTER EXPLAINING ALL THE VARIOUS THINGS. LUNCH IN MARINA RESTAURANT COD AND COUS, COUS, CRÈME BRULET VERY NICE. WENT TO LECTURE ON FAROES WAS A LITTLE BORING AS MOSTLY HISTORY OF THE ISLAND. WENT TO CAPTAINS COCKTAIL PARTY IN THE LOBBY, VERY NICE CAPTAIN AND OFFICERS, SPOKE TO CHIEF ENGINEER. HAD DINNER IN PORTRAITS MY FAVE RESTAURANT HAD SEA BASS, CREPES SUZETTE. LOVELY MEAL. ANNE MARIE CHRISTIAN WHO IS SALES IN OSLO INVITED ME TO THE BRIDGE AT 1130PM SAID WE COULD GO THERE ANYTIME, NOT SURE IF THIS WAS FOR RESIDENCES OR EVERYONE, WAS VERY INTERESTING AT THAT TIME OF NIGHT.

FRIDAY 23RD AUGUST.
GOT UP AT 7AM TO SEE ARRIVAL IN FAROES. HAD BREAKFAST IN TIDES, WAFFLES, VERY NICE MEAL. WENT OFF SHIP, UNFORTUNATELY THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANY CURRENCY ON BOARD SHIP, NOR BANK COMING ON BOARD AS THEY'D SAID, TOLD ME TO CHANGE IN THE BANK IN TOWN. BUT WHEN I DID THEY WOULDN'T CHANGE MY T/CHEQUES WITHOUT A PASSPORT WHICH THE SHIP STILL HELD. SO I WAS NOT AT ALL HAPPY, AS I COULD NOT GO FAR AND NOT SPEND ANYTHING. WALKED BY A WATERFALL AND THE BAY WHICH WAS NICE AND GOT GOOD VIEWS OF THE SHIP. WENT BACK ON BOARD SHIP IN TIME FOR LUNCH WHICH I HAD AT THE POOL GRILL, I HAD HOT DOG AND FRIES QUITE NICE. WENT ONTO THE BRIDGE BEFORE LEAVING THORSHAVN AFTER ANNE TOLD ME I COULD, GOT THERE OK, AND IT WAS GREAT JUST TO WALK AROUND THE BRIDGE WHILE THEY WERE WORKING. AFTER DEPARTURE HAD DINNER IN EAST, HAD RED SNAPPER A LITTLE DIFFERENT STEAMED BUT VERY NICE. RESORTED TO USING A KNIFE AND FORK AS I HAD SO MUCH TROUBLE WITH THE CHOPSTICKS, THEY SHOULD HAVE SOMEONE TELLING YOU HOW TO USE THE CHOPSTICKS. THE SEAS WERE GETTING A ROUGH AT THIS TIME BUT THE SHIP WAS STILL VERY STABLE.

SATURDAY 24TH AUGUST.
WOKE TO A FORCE 7 NEAR GALE. DIDN'T WORRY ME THOUGH. HAD BREAKFAST IN TIDES, WERE YOU COULD SEE THE SHIP GOING UP AND DOWN AS RESTAURANT WAS AT THE AFT END. HAD A FRIED BREAKFAST, VERY NICE.11AMWENT TO GOLF LESSON HAD AN HOUR WITH A GOLF PRO, I THINK IT HELPED A LITTLE WITH MY SWING.2THINGS ONE WAS THEY SAID THEY E MAILED YOUR SWING TO WHEREVER YOU ARE, NOTHING OF THIS WAS MENTIONED, THE OTHER WAS YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE RECIPROCAL  MEMBERSHIP AT OTHER GOLF CLUBS AROUND THE WORLD NOTHING WAS MENTIONED OF THIS EITHER. HAD LUNCH IN MARINA RESTAURANT WHERE THE ROUGH SEAS WERE VERY EVIDENT AT THE INDOOR SWIMMING POOL. HAD A LOT OF BLACK MUSSELS, WHICH O DON'T THINK DID ME A LOT OF GOOD. EVEN AFTER ONLY 4DAYS THE SAME MENU WAS A BIT THE SAME. BACK TO MY CABIN FOR A BATH IN MY SUITE WITH A BOTTLE OF CHAMPAGNE AND USING THE BATHROBE. FOR DINNER IN PORTRAITS, LOBSTER TAILS AND CAVIAR, SAT WITH AMERICAN COUPLE WHO SEEMED A LITTLE DRUNK, BUT WERE VERY NICE. A NICE CHANGE WAS NOT HAVING TO PUT YOUR LUGGAGE OUTSIDE YOUR ROOM ON THE LAST NIGHT, BUT IN THE MORNING WHICH WAS A GREAT IDEA.

SUNDAY 25TH AUGUST
GOT UP 0600HRS.HAD BREAKFAST IN ROOM NO BUTTER. ARRIVED IN REYKJAVIK AT 7AM,PAID BILL, GOT PASSPORT. GOT OF SHIP AT 9.15AM.AGAIN NO EXCHANGE FACILITIES ON BOARD WHICH WAS DISGUSTING!! SO HAD TO GET MY GUEST HOUSE OWNER TO PICK ME UP IN HER CAR AND AS IT WAS SUNDAY BANKS WERE CLOSED, I HAD NO CREDIT CARD. IF IT WAS NOT FOR HER LENDING ME ENOUGH MONEY TO CATCH A BUS INTO TOWN. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE. THE SHIP EVEN SAID THEY TAKE DOLLARS AND EUROS WHICH THEY DID NOT. WENT ROUND TOWN OF REYKJAVIK ON MY OWN "ALBATROSS" WAS IN ALSO NOT IN OLD HARBOUR BUT ANCHORED OUTSIDE. I REMEMBER WHEN CRUISE SHIPS BERTHED IN THE HARBOUR!!

MONDAY 26TH AUGUST.
TODAY I WENT ON WHALE SPOTTING BOAT TRIP. ON A RAINY AND WINDY DAY. AS IT WAS EVERY SINGLE DAY IN ICELAND. OUT 3HOURS IN QUITE ROUGH SEAS AND SAW NOTHING. SO I BOOKED FOR WEDNESDAY AS YOU GET A FREE ONE, UNFORTUNATELY IT WAS CANCELLED DUE WINDY WEATHER, NEVER MIND ANOTHER TIME.

TUESDAY 27TH AUGUST.
WENT TO SEE "THE WORLD" LEAVE TODAY IN HEAVY RAIN AND MIST, STILL IT WAS A GOOD VIEW.

WEDNESDAY 28TH AUGUST.
TODAY I WAS GOING ON THE WHALE SPOTTING AGAIN BUT WAS CANCELLED, SO BOOKED ON THE ROUND CIRCLE TOUR MYSELF. WHICH PICKED ME UP FROM TOWN CHANGED BUSES AT THE TERMINAL BUT NO ONE TOLD ME WHEN THE BUS WENT, SO I MISSED IT, BUT AT LEAST THEY TOOK ME OUT TO PICK UP MY TOUR. SAW THE HORSE RIDING STABLES, CRATER, GEYSER IN VERY HEAVY RAIN AND THE WATERFALL, VERY BEAUTIFUL BUT BETTER IN DRIER WEATHER.

THURSDAY 29TH AUGUST.
TODAY I WOKE AT 4AM FOR TAXI TO AIRPORT. A BIG MISTAKE A I GOT A FLIGHT TO GLASGOW AS IT WAS 10£ CHEAPER BUT THE HASSLE OF A 6 HOUR TRAIN JOURNEY TO LONDON WAS NOT THE BEST. WELL AS GREAT CRUISE ON A GREAT SHIP I DO HOPE THEY GET THROUGH THERE CURRENT TROUBLES IF I EVER WIN THE LOTTERY I'D LOVE TO PURCHASE AN APARTMENT. I TRIED IT, I LOVED IT ESPECIALLY THE BALCONY WHICH HAS NOW SPOILED ME. MY NEXT CRUISE HOPEFULLY WILL BE ON THE "UNIVERSE EXPLORER" IN DECEMBER I'LL BE DOING A CRUISE REVIEW OF THAT THEN.
