Great cruise. Pity about one of the excursions. While most excursions were fun
we run out of luck in St. Thomas when we took the BOB Underwater Adventure. Not
only any good snorkeling tour is better than this gimmicky tour, but also the
captain of our boat turned out to be a prankster and budding comedian. He had a
large water gun with which he blasted people when they least expected it. It’s a
bad idea and his behavior was thoroughly unprofessional. He splashed us and
ruined our camera and cell phone, and when I contacted Bob Underwater Adventure
about it they blew me off. Replacement cost was over $600, not to mention the
inconvenience of having one’s phone and camera disabled on the first day of the
vacation. We expected to get wet during this excursion but not on a stationary
boat on a calm sea and while listening to the captain’s briefing.
While it would be nice to have a BOB scooter for the whole day, the time you get
to on it is much too short after going to all the trouble to learn how to use
it. It’s much ado about nothing. Skip it.
Royal Caribbean delivers an up-market experience, and this particular cruise is
one of the best, especially in the summer when the hot Caribbean is less
oppressing in the small islands where a breeze blows most of the time.
St. Thomas is great; don't miss Magens Bay Beach, where you see flying fish next
to you and trip over starfish.
St. Maarten is great for shopping, but forget the French side, if you have only
one day spend it on the Dutch side.
Antigua is in a sorry state, grab a cab to to Runway Beach or Half Moon Beach
and keep away from the towns where only misery and hawkers are in attendance.
St. Lucia has the best geography and vegetation, it's simply stunning. We took
the Land and Sea tour which is excellent. Travel on land to Soufrieres , good
buffet lunch, and then back by sea with free drinks with the great local rum,
with a stop for snorkeling.
Barbados same as Antigua, stay on the beaches. We took the Swim with the Turtles
tour, which is great and unlike the BOB tour delivers a great experience.
Turtles are big, curious, and friendly.
I can't wait to return to the Caribbean again. Truly paradise if you make the
right choices.
