Occupation: Asst. Retired
Number of Cruises: 18+
Sailing Date: September 23rd, 2007
My husband John, daughter Jennifer and I are Platinum members of Crown and
Anchor Society. We were in need of a vacation as it had been some time since we
had been on a vacation together and thought it would be fun to take a cruise out
of San Juan. We have sailed on Explorer of the Seas, Navigator of the Seas and
now Adventure of the Seas, it is a very similar sister ship. We decided to take
a cruise with a new port every day, but we forgot to leave time to relax! This
cruise was just what we needed. I require an electric scooter as I have a bad
back and leg so will write this review from my point of view. I will be
including pictures of the handicapped bathroom in our stateroom. As always, we
have a travel agent to do our booking (Bill and Sammie of Above and Beyond
Travel) and Bill makes my reservation for my electric scooter at Care
Vacations. This is a wonderful service and there were several sizes of scooters
available. The scooter allows me the freedom to come and go as I please. John
and Jennifer can go snorkeling and etc., knowing I am safe. Also, RCI is there
to assist getting on and off the ships at ports of call.
We decided to have an overnight stay the day before the cruise in San Juan. We
stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan. The cab ride from the airport to the hotel
was $28.00. The cruise lines might want to rethink this hotel as it was quite
run down for the price charged and it was not close to the RCI ship terminal.
It is right across from the Carnival main ship terminal. We did have a nice
buffet breakfast at the hotel and watched the ships come in which was quite
nice. The hotel bellboy was extremely helpful and was from New York. The cab
ride from the hotel to the ship was $20.00. There were cabs everywhere ready to
help and we had a nice driver. Always ask the cab driver the fare before getting
in.
Embarkation:
As Platinum members of Crown and Anchor Society we have priority boarding. I
require wheelchair assistance and there was someone available to take me to the
room. We were on deck 10, room #1244 JS handicapped in no time at all. The
young woman that helped us took us all the way from the pier to the room. John
gave her a nice tip! She did a great job of helping us.
Cabin:
We had a JS handicapped room and they are spacious. As you can see from the
enclosed pictures of the bathroom there are plenty of railings to hold onto and
you feel safe. There is a seat in the shower that you can pull down if you are
not able to stand up and hand rails all around. The electric scooter was
waiting all charged up and ready to go. This was the largest electric scooter I
have ever rented from Care Vacations. I called it my “Harley” scooter! It was
a Shoprider Deluxe with all the bells and whistles. The only problem I had was
it was such a large scooter it was a tight fit thru the door but manageable.
One of the tires was low on the scooter and we called the service desk and they
called someone from maintenance and within five minutes someone was there to fix
the problem. We were very impressed with the service provided. Our room
attendant, Lyda, was always prompt in providing whatever we needed. We loved
the little towel animals.
