Number of Cruises: First Cruise
Cruise Line: Royal Caribbean
Ship: Enchantment of the Seas
Sailing Date: June 3rd, 2001
Itinerary: Western Caribbean
We booked our own flight arrangements because it worked out to be less expensive. When we arrived at the airport, we found that we were missing one piece of luggage. Representatives from both RCCL and US Airways were WONDERFUL. To make a long story short, they kept the situation from becoming stressful; our bag was located and transported by boat to the ship within 1/2 hour of sailing.
Embarkation was at Port Everglades, Ft. Lauderdale. We checked in, had our Supercharge Card, and were walking around this ship within 15 minutes.
We had a suite with a balcony. Being that there were 4 of us and we all tend to over pack, we were concerned about having enough room to store everything, but we found a place for everything. There was plenty of room and the balcony made a nice “get away” while we were getting ready for dinner, etc. Our cabin attendant, Carlton Coakley, was fantastic. Friendly and helpful from the start. He always made sure we had plenty of towels, glasses, and whatever else we needed. We were celebrating Michele’s birthday while on board, and Carlton left her flowers in the cabin. It helped to make her day!
SHIP APPEARANCE AND AMENITIES
The ship was beautiful. Very impressive. Everywhere we went we couldn’t say enough wonderful things. We were most impressed by how clean everything was -there always seemed to be someone cleaning something. Our favorite places to have a drink were the Champagne Bar and the Schooner Bar. We really enjoyed the Bingo - played every day -and two of us won the last day. We also enjoyed the Beatles Review. The Karaoke was a lot of fun, although we didn’t get a chance to sing since there was such a large crowd. Our minor complaint about the Karaoke would be the number of people under 18 allowed to participate...they seem to take up more time then the others.
MY FAIR LADY DINING ROOM
This was an experience unlike any other. The dining room was breathtaking and dinner every night was fantastic. We began looking forward to it the night before when our waiter would give us the preview. Our waiter, Ovidiu from Romania, was the best. He made the whole experience perfect and he never missed a beat. Everything was even more perfect because of him. Our Assistant Waiter, “Rocky” from India, was wonderful as well. Friendly, personable and very efficient. We enjoyed our after dinner “shots” brought to us by the booze man, and we also enjoyed the entertainment provided by the wait staff on 3 different evenings.
PORTS OF CALL
Key West was fantastic. We shopped and ate, two of our favorite things. In Cozumel we went to the Playa del Sol Beach Club, one of the excursions offered by the ship. This was a pleasant day, we got a little sun and went back to the ship. In retrospect, I wish I had tried one of the other excursions so I could have seen a little more of the island, but there’s always next time. Montego Bay was definitely not our favorite place. We did not enjoy this stop because we did not plan an excursion and went on our own. I would not recommend this to anyone. Our final port was Georgetown, Grand Cayman. This was our favorite stop. Michele & Elise went to the beach and did some shopping. Gretchen & I did the Turtle Farm, Stingray City, Island Tour, Excursion; then had time to get lunch and do some shopping before getting back on the ship. This was a great day for everyone.
As I said, we cannot say enough wonderful things about our trip. The ship was beautiful and the staff was terrific. Everyone was friendly and attentive and made a special effort to remember your name, favorite drink, etc. We’ll definitely sail RCCL again, and probably stick with the Enchantment!
