Sailing Date: March 6th; 2004
Itinerary: ocho rios and grand cayman
This was our second cruise, our first one was on the Carnival Pride in 2002. Our
embarkation was very smooth. We arrived at the ship around 1:00pm and were on
board within 15 minutes. Our cabin was on deck #2 an outside cabin and
considering it was only 154sq ft it was surprisingly spacious. We went to lunch
in the windjammer dining room for the buffet lunch which was excellent. In fact
the food during the entire cruise was wonderful. We ate all our breakfasts and
lunches in the windjammer and all our dinners in the My Fair Lady dining room.
We had a table of 10 and our tablemates were fun to be with.
All the shows in the Orpheum theatre were great. There were two production
shows, as well as a comic-magician, and the group Beatlemaniacs who were
terrific. We went to karaoke twice in the Carousel room where they also played
the adult game Quest which is not to be missed. In addition, they had name that
tune in the Schooner bar with Jim the piano player which was a lot of fun. I did
find that the pictures the photo staff took were on the expensive side so we
only bought a couple. Shopping on the ship was good and we found many bargains
in the stores.
Both ports were excellent. In ocho rios we booked a private tour online from
phil Lafayette tours. Not only was it cheaper but it was more fun and
informative. We were traveling with another couple and we were the only one on
Phil's tour bus. Phil was a funny and entertaining guide who sang to us , took
pictures of us, took us to some interesting out of the way places and made us
feel special. You can book him on www.phil-lafayette-tours.com.
(1-800-427-5829). We climbed Dunns Falls in Ocho Rios and it was great fun and
only mildly challenging. We had Phil drop us off At Jimmy Buffetts
Margaritaville's restaurant where we had lunch and used the beach next to the
restaurant for free.. The beach was great, we rented chairs for $5.00 and rented
Kayaks and spent the afternoon there. It was only a few steps back to the cruise
ship when we were done so we were able to walk back.
Our next port was Grand Cayman were we also booked a private tour From Nativeway
tours. We went to stingray city where the water was beautiful and though the
stingrays were intimidating at first you got used to them very quickly. After
that we did some snorkling than back to town. Unfortunately there were 7 cruise
ships tendered that day so it was very crowded. We did a little shopping than
headed back to the ship.
Our de-embarkation was smooth and I would say that everything went well during
the week. The ship was beautiful and the staff couldn't have been more
accomodating. I would definitely cruise with Royal Caribbean again.
