We arrived a day early
in Fort Lauderdale on a beautiful sunny day. I always recommend you get to your
port city a day early so there is no chance of missing your ship. We went to the
Las Olas river walk area for a day of shopping and sightseeing. What a beautiful
area. We took the water bus to various parts of the city. The homes and yachts
are truly amazing!
The next day we left our hotel at @11:00. We were checked in and lunching at the
Windjammer by noon. Went to our inside cabin on deck 7. Was pleasantly surprised
at the size and storage space. We unpacked our carry-on luggage and changed into
our suits and went up to deck 9 to the pool! An hour later went to see if our
luggage was there yet, and it was! We unpacked and went back to the pool. We
also made a spa appointment for a couples massage. We had a late dinner seating
so we had plenty of time to enjoy the pool area and people watch. With the late
dinner seating I feel you don't have to rush around when you are in ports of
call.
Dinner that night was very good and the service was good, but not what we
expected. The service was better for the rest of the cruise. Dominic our waiter
would cut up my iceberg wedge salad every night to the amazement of Jim, one of
our table mates.
The first stop was Key West. What can you say about Key West that has not been
said already? Did the trolley tour which you can get on and off at 10 different
point of interest, including southern most point bouy. The only part of this
port I don't like is you are not there at sunset! This is a big deal in Key
West.
The next stop was Cozumel. Very good shopping. Jenna, our shopping director was
very helpful as to where to buy certain items and where not to. You do need to
take a taxi to town as the ship dock is three miles from the main shopping
district. We ate lunch at Poncho's Backyard restaurant which we highly
recommend. We actually saw two of our table mates there and they asked us to
join them. We did and had a very good time with them and they even bought our
lunch, which was very generous and thoughtful. After lunch we did more shopping
and went back to the ship to enjoy the pool and basking in the sun. That night
we ate at Chops Steak House. It was very good with excellent service and a great
manager.
The next stop was Belize city. We didn't care for this port that much. Here you
have to tender, which was fine. The water is very clear and blue. The pier area
is where the shopping area is. We walked from the pier to town. Went for 10
minutes and turned around. Remember, this is a poor country and it looked like
it. Did some shopping at the pier and went back to the ship for lunch and pool
time. It was hot down there! had another great dinner and hit the casino and
won!. The next day was a day at sea. We did the couple's massage and did the
pool thing. Later that day in the Centrum the Nelson Brothers (Ricky Nelson's
sons) did an hour concert. They were very good. My wife had two pictures taken
with them later that evening before dinner we saw them at the coffee bar,
Latitudes. We sat with them and had a great conversation. Had another great
dinner! lobster. my favorite!
went back to the room to pack and the sadness sets in. the cruise is about to
end.
Overall is was another great RCI cruise. The ship is outstanding and very clean.
There were more spring-breakers on this cruise than I thought there would be.
They did behave themselves for the most part and they were very entertaining
most of the time.
