Thank goodness the weather was decent and the people we sat with at dinner were great becasue otherwise this was a dud of a trip. This was my fourth cruise, the first - and last - on Royal Carribean. We had nothing but problems and poor service. I should say that the room attendents and wait staff were fine. The shore excusrion staff were not helpful and when two - yes two - of our trips were cancelled - we were offered no compensation. The first of our excusrions was calypso rafting in Jamaica - they were 1 hour late picking us up and the dozen or so people we asked for help simply walked away from us without assisting. When we finally were picked up we were brought to the place we were to go rafting only to be told the water was to high to do so. Apparently someone forgot to pass this along and our bus of vacationers was very dissapointed and angry. We were returned to port where we all had to argue to be refunded. We were offered to join another tour that was already 2 hours in progress but would have needed to pay full price. The next day in Grand Caymen we were going to swim with stingrays at a sand bar, which we had done before and enjoyed. 1 hour into our catamaran ride to the sand bar it was announced that there were rip tides and we could not do that either. That was a bummer, not really Royal Carribean's fault either, but again, no pat on the back for our lost time and dissapointment like I would have anticipated. We did enjoy Labadi, but instructions on meeting place to take our excursion were poor and we were late. The beach was ok, not as clean as I would have expected, especially for a private island owned by the cruise line. Also some of the people we were traveling with saw men handcuffed sitting on a wall - wierd on a private island. Oh I should mention the same traveling companions saw a man dead slummped over his stearing wheel, they describe execution style, when they were horseback riding in Jamaica. Well, then my husband purchased visine for $11.00 on the boat and we believe the cashier never gave him his card back. We spent the next 5 minutes searching for the card, went to the guest relations desk and was issued a new card. We were assured no one could use his lost card because it has a picture that appears on the register when they run the card. To make a long story short - cartons of cigarettes were purchased 5 minutes after the visine, in the same store, by the same cashier. I HAD to have been standing right there when they were purchased and I am convinced the cashier had something to do with it. I should also mention it is the first cruise we opted for a balcony and the chair on the balcony was broken. I complained and even so it was never replaced. We did make a written complaint after the Calypso Rafting extravaganza and I believe that is why the last night of the cruise, when everyone received guest comment forms, we did not receive one. I was very disappointed in this cruise, although we did try to make the best of it - after all it is vacation in warm weather! I will never travel with Royal Carribean again.
