My husband and I had a wonderful time on the Grandeur of the Seas 4-night cruise to Key West and Cozumel.
The staff is superb; they really make you feel appreciated and that you are at home-away-from-home.
We are ages 50 and 54; just entering the senior group. Since we wanted rest and relaxation, we spent most of our down-time on Deck 5 in a lounge chair reading..
We ate most breakfasts buffet-style in the Windjammer. There was fresh fruit, hot and cold cereals, scrambled eggs or omelettes made to order, sausage, bacon and deli meats including smoked salmon; and different types of danish, breads and muffins as well as pancakes, waffles and french toast. Orange juice, coffee and tea is available. We enjoyed our breakfast; everything was tasty and hot and we could eat as much as we wanted.
The only day we ate lunch was in the dining room on the Day at Sea. They had a delicious chop salad bar where you selected your ingredients and a chef chopped your salad in front of you. Then we ordered from the menu.
Each night we ate dinner in the main dining room. Our waiters were excellent. The food was good and just enough. Hearty appetites may want to ask for more.
Our stateroom was comfortable and clean. We both slept well in the beds. There is a shower gel/shampoo dispenser in the shower. Other than that bring your own toiletries. The room was kept tidy all day long.
Our main goal for this trip was rest and relaxation so we only took part in a few activities. We enjoyed sitting by the pool listening to Caribbean-style music one night; another night we listened to latin music in the Centrum and a third night we participated in the salsa lessons. The captain's reception was wonderful with a live band and dancing which appealed to the 40+ crowd -- and drinks on-the-house. I most appreciated that they already had a punch in glasses ready for those who did not drink alcohol. We attended shows two nights and were pleased but I heard that the comedy night was the best. We are not the drinking-gambling-party type so we were not offended at any of the other activities for people who are; we just did not attend. My husband attended a night of jazz in one of the lounges; there were only about 12 people there - jazz enthusiasts. Others chose to party in the disco (which is on floor 11 - away from other public areas). However, it did not "invade our space". We got the rest and relaxation that we came for.
I would say don't miss the Captain's Reception and make sure you are wearing a very high SPF sun screen in Cozumel. I wore SPF 50 and still got a heat rash. Also I recommend My Time dining which provides a table for 2 if you want and the opportunity to make a reservation for the time of your choice in the dining room.
Overall, we had the best time and would definitely travel Grandeur of the Seas again.
