Itinerary: Western Caribbean

This was our first cruise ever. My husband and I left our children home to enjoy a vacation on our own for the first time in 16 years. We arrived in Miami the night before we sailed which I recommend highly. We leisurely got up the next morning and ate, swam at hotel and then took a taxi to Bayside for some shopping. We arrived at the port at 11:00 and got right on the ship. They were just opening up the doors and we basically walked right in after getting checked in at the counter. We were told our cabin would not be ready until 1:00 pm so we headed to the Windjammer for lunch and then found a spot by the pool. It was so nice to just lay around and relax.

We did not attend dinner in the main dining room that night, we went to the Windjammer again and it was your typical buffet style food but good.

The next morning we arrived at Coco Cay and got up early and headed out. This was the best part of our entire cruise. It is beautiful on the island and the BBQ lunch was great. We really enjoyed this day.

Our next day was Nassau and we were already disappointed in that our Shore Excursion to Blackbeards Cay was cancelled due to remodeling so we explored on our own. Nassau is nice but a little too dirty and pushy people for me. We looked around and shopped and ate lunch at Senor Frogs which was fun. We took a water taxi to Paradise Island and walked around Atlantis. Too fancy in my taste...rooms run $300-more per night!

All in all our cruise was fine for first timers. I would recommend a longer cruise for sure. We had little time to relax because we didn't want to miss anything. The food was mediocre and nothing spectacular but ok. The ship was very nice only a few areas that need updating and the bathrooms up near the Windjammer tend to overflow from the toilets...yuck!!

Next time we will probably try another cruise line just to compare notes. Good trip for someone starting out.
