Majesty of the Seas Cruise Review

Michael Salvati

Age: 42
Occupation: Law Related
Number of Cruises: 3
Cruise Line: RCCL
Ship: Majesty Of The Seas
Sailing Date: October 22nd, 2004
Itinerary: 3 Day Bahamas

I booked online, RCCL sent all the necessary paperwork on time and correct. Port Of Miami was easy to access and we were on the Ship without delay.

As we stepped on board, we were bombarded by 3 men looking to sell us wine for our dinners. They would not take no for an answer and continued until I insisted for them to stop.

I wished that RCCL would have told me that they were serving lunch on the Ship as nothing that they publish mentions it.

I also told the RCCL Rep when booking this cruise that it was my wife's 40 birthday surprise and I was assured that the Captain would introduce himself and make the trip a little more personable. Well they fell short in a big way as no one even sang Happy Birthday let alone a visit from the Captain.

The Ship is about 12 years old and it looks it. I was told by the RCCL Rep that it had been recently refurbished but it still looked like a throw back from the early 90's.

The stateroom was more like a closet. The bed had no spread and I was told it was dirty and being washed. I finally got the spread the next day. Also, the desk had a sticky red substance on it that was not cleaned until the next day.

The food was buffet quality at best and seemed to be modeled after Las Vegas all you can eat mentality. I guess you could order 10 steaks if you wanted them but who would want them?? The Shrimp Cocktail was a joke. The shrimp were the 50 to a pound lot and we had to beg for cocktail sauce.

If you are older or need help getting onto the tender, you better ask for help before you leave the Ship because your not going to get it as you board the tender. Coco Cay is just basically a small rock island in the Atlantic that is owned and operated by RCCL. It is definitely not a lush tropical island. There were chickens running wild under the hammocks. The shore is rocky so be careful not to cut your feet. Everything is over priced from clothing to wave runners and they are in abundance so check it out before you purchase the shore excursion or before you book it online. They do provide a decent lunch on the positive side.

Activities on the Ship were nice. The Ship was clean although I could not understand why on Sunday, they closed the Windjammer Cafe to perform pressure cleaning maintenance on the decks.

Nassau was dirty and no bargains to be had. Do not take the Ferry to Atlantis unless you want to walk a mile or so to get there. Taxi's are a better bargain.

Aside from Atlantis being expensive, we discovered that staff are placed at every exit for the purpose denying you access to the pool and beaches. Tourists are prohibited walking outside without purchasing a pass. I spoke to a female in their vacation office and was told that the reason the resort is so strict is that if they allowed access to all the cruise ship tourists, it would cause a clutter problem for their guests. Funny, if you purchase a ticket for admission, the clutter problem goes away. They do not prohibit you from spending money in their casino or eat the food in the restaurants or by their merchandise. There's plenty of room for everybody.

We spent about $175.00 on drinks for our trip. Photos op's are all over the ship and they would rather toss out the photos then make a deal with on the purchases.

Getting off the ship in Miami was hassle free until the Customs Agent asked me about my Rolex watch insinuating that it was a Bahamas purchase. It took about a half hour to clear Customs. Apparently RCCL failed to inform their passengers that Customs flags all people with Rolex watches and forms are available to document your watch prior to departure. What a great feeling coming back to your Country.

Hope this helps.
