My husband and I went on the cruise with about 50 friends and family to attend a wedding in Grand Cayman. We had been looking forward to cruising for some time. I had no expectations so I was really open to anything. We are not difficult people to please. I will start with the good things. The ship was beautiful, the weather was perfect and the boarding process was seamless. Now for the bad and the biggest reason that I will do everything in my power to make sure that no one we know will ever cruise with Royal Caribbean again. On the last night of the cruise, we were required to have all of our bags packed and outside our cabin door by midnight. We had everything laid out on our bed ready to pack before we went to dinner at 8:30. When we got to dinner we realized that we had left our many envelopes filled with tips for our waiters in our stateroom so my husband went back to get them. When he got back he noticed that our stateroom attendant had already come and picked up his tip envelope out of the stack. Strange and a little greedy, we thought but laughed it off. In all of the rush and confusion of deboarding that night and the next morning, we didn't realize that my husband's cell phone was missing. We each assumed that the other had packed it. Unfortunately, it took us a few days to realize that it was missing. Over $1200 in cell phone charges had been accumulated in phone calls to Spain and Trinidad and many other countries. Our cell phone company claims it is our responsibility to pay those charges because we didn't report the phone stolen right away and Royal Caribbean is not taking responsibility for the theft. Now after paying too much money for an extremely overpriced cruise, we are also out an additional $1200 because someone from the crew (most likely our stateroom attendant) stole our cell phone out of our room. How do you prove that? Unfortunately, that is the million dollar question.
On another note, I did contact the Port Canaveral Sheriff's Department to file a report and apparently theft aboard cruise ships is their most common complaint. 99% of the time the theft is by crew members and on the last day of the cruise.
This is something to seriously consider if you are thinking of taking a cruise.
My husband and I would recommend that you do not cruise with Royal Caribbean.
