Sailing Date: May 3rd, 2003
Itinerary: Western Caribbean
The ship is absolutely gorgeous… it’s huge and you
will never be bored because there is so much to do. You feel lost the first few
days, but get used to it and can walk the whole ship with your eyes closed. Even
though there are so many people abroad it does not feel overcrowded. You will
hardly feel the ship move unless it hits a storm.
Embarkation and disembarkation are a pain, but that’s with any cruise ship. The
cabins are excellently laid out. You never feel cramped and there is room for
all your belongings. The club is bumping every night and the ice show is not to
be missed. The drinking age on the ship is 18!!! The food at Johnny Rockets is a
must, especially if you love burgers. Make sure to order rooms service… its free
and delicious. Do not miss the midnight buffet in the dinning room… the food
presentation is amazing. Our dinning room waiter was the bomb…they are all
actually pretty cool and treat you like royalty. The food in the Windjammer and
the dining room could be better, but who comes on the cruise to just eat??
My biggest piece of advice is not to take excursions from the ship because they
are way overpriced. Visiting the Dunes River Falls is a must, but they are very
slippery to climb. If you are into the wave runners, wait till you get to
Jamaica (beach at Dunes River Falls). You pay $40 for half an hour instead of
$100 for an hour with the ship tours. If you take a cab in Jamaica, make sure it
has a red license plate…the cab driver is a certified government guide. Mexico
is a disappointment because the locals are rude. If you are interested in the
Mayan ruins, find your own way to get there. If you take a Mayan excursion from
the ship, you will drive and sail for five hours and only have an hour at the
ruins. If you are the adventurous type, try the banana boat ride in Haiti for
$10. The only excursion to take with the ship is the personalized stingray city
tour… it’s only for 10 people and cost a little bit extra, but it’s worth it.
Your guide explains how the stingrays live and lets you know how to avoid
getting bit. He lets you hold them, feed them, and even kiss them if that’s your
thing. This vacation was incredible and I recommend sailing with the biggest
ship in the world!!!
