I am 16 and I took my 3rd cruise aboard the Royal Caribbean ship, Nordic Empress. It had its ups and downs, but I can say that it had by far the best staff, especially in the dining room. Our waiter was named Melvin. Throughout the cruise we got to know him very well. He memorized and called us by our names by the second meal. He put up very well with my ordering of numerous appetizers, soups, salads, entrees, and deserts. One day I wanted my broccoli with cheese, but it wasn’t an open choice. Luckily, Melvin came to my rescue and hunted down some cheese for me.

Oh, and there was more. Our assistant waiter from India had a difficult name for my simple Indiana tongue to pronounce, so we asked him if we could call him “Chuck” and he thought it was a great idea. The only thing that bothered me about him was that he always referred to me as sir. I didn’t like this so I simply became know as “Chuck Jr.”

By the end of the cruise my whole family of 12 on the boat became great friends with Melvin and Chuck. Our table cheered the loudest for our singing waiter. We gave them a standing ovation on the last day. It was hard to part, but we had pictures together for the ages.
