Cruise Line: Royal Caribbean International
Ship: Nordic Empress
Sailing Date: August 5th, 2001
Itinerary: New York City--Bermuda

When you come into New York and just look at the Nordic Empress, you know you will have a great time. For a 10 year old ship, it is in "Ship Shape," almost flawless, unlike the newer ships such as the Norweigan Cruise Line's  Norwegian Sea. The Royal Caribbean International staff is very helpful during check-in, but the lines can be long. When you get aboard the beautiful Nordic Empress, you see a large, beautiful waterfall with plants, and two glass elevators that run from deck 2 to deck 10. There are also about six other elevators onboard.

The stateroom are small and so are the bathrooms, but what can you expect from an older ship? The staterooms are kept up well, you are provided with a clock, a phone, a TV, and a safe. (Hint: the oceanview staterooms, the one I had, are a little larger and nice than the interior staterooms.

The ship was very smooth on our cruise. The ship has a ShipShape gym, a pretty larege swimming pool, a waiting pool and four spas/hottubs. There are at least four lounges, a pub, a pretty large casino, a video arcade, an internet center, shops, a theatre- Strike up the Band- and two dining areas- the Windjammer cafe and the Carmen dining room. The food was good, but not excellent. The entertainment was excellent and it ranged from comedy to reviews to talent shows. There are many activities both for adults and teens.

There is an area for kids ages 3-12 called KidsKonnection. Service: The cabin attendants are very nice and they do an excellent job. If you get Brian or Shenya, the two that did deck 9, they are the best. The waiters/assistants are very nice-we had Melvin and Ramil. All of the staff at Royal Caribbean International are very nice and actually know what they are doing!

My experience with Royal Caribbean International was excellent. I would recommend the cruise line and this ship, the Nordic Empress to everybody.
