Itinerary: Western Caribbean

Embark/Disembark: Quick, easy and painless. We arrived at the port, entered the building, and in less than 45 minutes we were eating lunch at Windjammer! Leaving the ship was even faster.......so fast that we were at the airport several hours earlier than expected! Room: Our room was perfect from the time we arrived until the time we left the ship. On past cruises, we've had problems with room temperature and noise.....but not on Oasis of the Seas. The tv has an interactive system that allows you to plan excursions, book entertainment, book excursions, and even see your on-board expenditures. The bathroom was roomier than our previous cruises and it was nice to be able to shave in the bathroom at the same time that my wife was in the shower. Room Service: This was one of the few experiences on the ship that was not "up to par". One morning, our room service breakfast never arrived even though I had filled out the request the night before and posted it on the exterior doorknob (as instructed). The other days, everything was great! FYI.....order your room service using the interactive TV. It's quick, easy, and there's no chance of your order form being removed from your door the night before by a mischievous neighbor. Cabin Steward: Our steward kept the cabin spotless, the ice full, and always left us extra towels. We met him on arrival in our room and saw him again on the last evening. Yes, that's right.....we didn't see him a single time from 1st to last day. It could be argued that that's a good thing. He wasn't in our way and he was never there cleaning while we were trying to do things. He came in, took care of business, and got out! That worked for us......but it might be a problem for some. Food: It would be possible to eat at a different restaurant every single day! The choices are amazing and ALL the food was delicious. Our head waiter and assistant waiter (in the main dining room) were responsive, friendly, and knowledgeable. We've never had better on a cruise ship. There are several "upgrade" restaurants on board where you can have a "different" dining experience for a slightly higher charge ($5 up to $50 person). We were very impressed with Johnny Rockets and ate there twice for a $5 upgrade. Giovanni's was good ($10 upgrade) but honestly, I think we'd have had as good a meal in the dining room at no additional charge. The Solarium was delicious for breakfast.....and a healthier alternative than most. Shopping: We were not as impressed here as we were with the rest of the ship. Prices were not bad but selection was a bit skimpy in the logo shop and service was not the best. Excursions: We had an excellent time on St Thomas with the Jost Van Dyke / Snorkeling excursion. I'd love to do it again! On St Martin, we did not have an excursion booked through the ship (it was canceled last-minute). We took a taxi tour off the dock.....and it really wasn't that good. I'd suggest booking an excursion through the ship. In Nassau, we took an island tour and it was good (though a bit hurried). You're only on Nassau for a few hours, so you won't get much on your excursion there! Entertainment: Excellent! Hairspray was fantastic ...... and I usually don't care for musicals! The diving show was excellent and we thought the comedy club was fantastic. There was ALWAYS something to do, somewhere on the ship. Activities: There are pools everywhere......and most have hot tubs right next to them. We never found the pools, hot tubs, or deck areas to be crowded and the bar service was excellent. Value: Though the charges may be slightly higher, I thought the experience was so much better than our other cruises (Carnival Pride and Norwegian Majesty). We never felt crowded or rushed even though the ship was packed and I believe the cruise was well worth the cost.

As written above: Main Dining Room food: 4 1/2 stars Johnny Rockets food: 4 1/2 stars Giovanni's food: 3 1/2 stars Solarium food: 4 stars Windjammer food: 3 1/2 stars Room Service breakfast: 3 stars Cupcake Store food: 4 stars Overall: 4 stars

Excellent! It was larger than our previous cruises and the layout was good. The a/c was comfortable, the bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was spacious.

There was something for everyone almost 24 hours per day! This time, we tried to relax and not try to do everything (ha).......but we did see all the major entertainment shows!

St Thomas: Jost Van Dyke Excursion This is the best cruise excursion I've ever been on.....by far. Do it. St Martin: Our first try was an eco hike down one of the mountains and I booked it through RC 3 months in advance. It was canceled because of "environmental issues". We scheduled again......the Pinel Island snorkeling excursion. Alas, it too was canceled (at the last minute). We did an island tour at the taxi stand on the pier and I would say it was ok, but I wouldn't recommend it. We've been to St Martin several times and if we go again, we'll probably just get a taxi to Orient Beach and offer the driver an extra $20 if he'll pick us back up at a pre-arranged time to return us to the ship. Nassau: I'm not a big fan of Nassau. We booked a van tour through the cruise line and it was a bit of a hassle. They had hundreds of people booked but only had a few vans available. We waited on the pier for an hour and finally got a van. The driver was nice and she tried hard.....but at that point, most of our brief time on the island had been burned up waiting in line! I really hated it for the 150 people who were behind us in line! I wonder if some of them even got to get on a van!! FYI.....If we had it to do over, we would have just stayed onboard while the ship was docked in Nassau. We were only there for about 5 hours.....and the tour could only possibly be about an hour because of the delays and having to get us back on the ship in time. Unless RC changes the Nassau stop.....stay on the ship and enjoy the pools/hot tubs/restaurants!

Overall, we loved it! I wish we could do another this summer and I would have no problem with booking the same ship for the Eastern Carribean leg!
