This was our first cruise on Royal Carribbean, although we had cruised a couple of times on Norwegian Cruise Lines. We cruised with our two married daughters and their families, and were determined to have a wonderful time. The cruise was for only four days, but each of those days had so much crammed into it! We had many choices, and although we found some things lacking, all in all it was a great time. We really liked the "Freestyle cruising" that's offered by NCL. Making an effort to attend dinner at an appointed time was somewhat daunting, although our absolutely fabulous waiter and assistant waiter made each dining experience colorful and satisfying. We chose to book a family suite, and were definitely disappointed in the room. Although she's an older grand lady, little attention was paid to keeping the suite from looking well-worn. We even had a plywood plank that was placed under the queen-sized bed to stabilize it, and the king-sized bed was so worn that every spring could be felt. The bathroom smelled horrible, and we had to have the maintenance staff come to the room two out of four days at sea to help rid the room of the sewer smell. The tub was in poor condition, too. No matter how hard our wonderful maid would clean it, it still looked soiled. The staff was beyond belief. The food in the Windjammer Buffet was less than desirable, and we often found that the coffee was empty, and I never was able to get any ice cubes at the buffet, either. I don't know if the machines were not working, or if they simply could not keep up with the demand. For the cost of the family suite, I felt we overspent for a marginal cruise. The only truly wonderful thing we had was excellent staff service. Next time, we're treating the family to NCL.
