Sovereign of the seas Cruise Review
My friend Dana and I took this cruise as a weekend get-a-way. I have cruised with Royal Caribbean once before as well as Carnival (both 7 night cruises). I chose Royal Caribbean this time because my last experience was extremely enjoyable. I must say that I was very disappointed with everything from customer service to the condition of the stateroom #2142. The bathroom area of the stateroom was disgusting. There was a fowl smell as soon as we opened the door and grime build up on the shower floor. We went to guest services and they said that they would let someone know that it needed to be cleaned. A few hours later I received a telephone call telling me that the issue had been resolved. I told them that I couldn’t tell a difference in the condition of the bathroom they said they would double check and I never heard from guest services again regarding the situation. I requested a stateroom change and was told there were no other options for me. We decided to try and suck it up so that we wouldn’t spend our entire weekend with guest services.
The following evening we weren’t up for the formal dinner so we decided to stop by Johnny Rocket’s, this was around 7:00 pm and we didn’t have anything more to eat that evening. This was not included in the price of the cruise and we had to pay a service fee to dine there. This wasn’t a huge deal, just a little disappointing. Dana and I both ordered a cheeseburger and had onion rings and fries as well. Around 2:00 AM Dana and I both woke up with nausea and diarrhea that lasted most of the night and into day three.
On day three we go off of the ship in Coco Cay, Bahamas. We were still a little nauseous so we relaxed on the beach before shopping at the straw market. We didn’t buy a whole lot, but found a few things for our children. My son collects foreign currency and I found a display folder with a Bahamian dollar as well as coins for him and rum tea for my husband. Dana purchased a straw purse for her daughter as well as a flute. After re-boarding the ship we put our belongings on the conveyer belt for security purposes (scanning). We went threw the metal detector and our bag was gone. We asked security for help and they said there was nothing that could be done. We then went to guest services and filed a claim with lost and found. An hour later we called security in hopes that we might speak to someone more helpful. There was no answer so we left a message, but no one ever returned our call.
I expected so much from this cruise because of past experiences. The service has always been unbelievable and I am not sure if it is because my last cruises were 7 nights and this one was only a 3 night. From the time we boarded the ship we were made to feel as though we were inconveniencing any crew member that we asked assistance from.
Unfortunately this was
my friend Dana’s first cruise and she says that it will be her last. I feel
terrible because this was all my idea. If only crew members had been a little
more helpful by doing their jobs.....
