Having sailed on many Carnival ships and on the Royal Caribbean "Majesty of the Seas", I can honestly say I was very disappointed in the "Sovereign of the Seas"...it definitely leaves a lot to be desired.
The rooms are definitely much smaller than the ones on "Carnival", and we kept having trouble flushing our toilet. So did many of our friends. We kept calling and calling maintenance not only to complain about the toilets, but about the temperature in our room, as well. We stayed way too warm for almost the entire cruise! They kept telling us that they had fixed the a/c, but it never cooled down to where our room was comfortable. We slept on top of all the cover the whole time. We were also disappointed that there were no toiletry items provided like there was on the "Carnival" ships. It is always fun to see what is in the little basket that they give you. We also missed having bathrobes to use while on the cruise. I am used to them being on the ship, and I didn't take mine from home. Apparently, "Royal Caribbean" does not provide them.
The food was pretty good on the ship, but when we had our excursion to "Cocoa Cay", the barbecue on the beach was not really good at all. The only thing that tasted good to me was the chocolate chip cookies! The drinks were terribly watered-down fruit punch and tea.
We do not like the idea of having "Johnny Rockets" and "Seattle's Best" and "Ben and Jerry's"...Guess what? We can go to those things back home and pay for food and drinks! If we are on a ship, we expect to have our food included in our trip! How we missed the wonderful trips to the free ice cream machines on "Carnival"!
The coffee that is served from the regular machines on "Royal Caribbean" is absolutely not worth drinking! Ugh! It tastes like some kind of bitter "quinine" syrup! No amount of water or cream or sugar helped!
Forgot to mention that one of our friend's rooms got completely flooded from a pipe that burst! I think it is obvious that this ship is old, and is in need of a lot of repair. We read that it had been "upgraded", but we didn't see evidence of this. Not only were the rooms hot, but even in the elevators and cruise shops, etc., it was hot, as well.
Our trip to Nassau was nice, and we did the normal shopping. It seemed to us that prices have gone way up, even in the last two years. It was hard to buy souvenirs for all of our family.
One thing I can say about this cruise is that it has the very best stage shows that we have seen on any of our other cruises. What a talented bunch of singers and dancers! Absolutely great!
However, I would not recommend sailing on this ship again. We
will either request a larger "Royal Caribbean" ship, or maybe just go back to
"Carnival". They have proven to be very consistent in providing a really good
cruise experience for us. (We go every year with my husband's relative's heating
and air conditioning company.)
Hope this was helpful...
