Itinerary: Western Caribbean
We drove to Miami from Montreal with our
friends Elaine and Tommy. Wewanted to avoid the plane
($$$) and arrive a day earlier. We had booked ahotel
in South Beach for Saturday night. We walked on South Beach wherethere are restaurants and stores and a lot of wild and rich people!! Wewoke up the next morning, very excited to go on the ship, we had
breakfastand drove to the Port (10 minute drive from
our hotel). We left the car atthe Port, 10$ US per
day. We were very much in advance so it wasn't long
before we got on the ship. We went to the buffet right away, got to ourcabin, changed into our bathing suits (that were in our carry on bag),wenton the pool deck to relax for the whole
afternoon. Than we went in thedining room to see
where we would be sitting, and how many people would beat our table. The Voyager started to move around 5:30 pm. It was great tosee all the people stopping their cars to look at the ships leaving
Miami, and to see all those big houses!!
By the time we got back to our room to change for dinner, our luggage wasalready in front of our cabin. We were sitting with two other couples at
ourtable. Both American couples, who were very nice,
we had a great time atdinner all week. My boyfriend
and I were amazed to be treated as king andqueen! It
was our friends' 3rd cruise. They had sailed twice withCarnival. So they were always comparing Carnival with Royal Caribbean,
butwe didn't mind.
The Ship is very beautiful, very big, but not crowded, on the contrary! Wewere always wondering where everybody was! There is something to do foreveryone. I don't think it's possible to go everywhere and do everythingthat there is to do in one week! Even if we had 2 days at sea.
Labadee was very beautiful, we stayed on the beach all day, and wentshopping at the flee market.
Ocho Rios was nice, we went to Dunn's
River falls. Although I don'tremember actually seeing
the falls because I was so concentrated on holding
hands and not falling in the falls!! I did not like holding everybody'shands by the way. And we got a little scared when we realized that our
taxihad already left for the Ship with the other
people that drove with us tothe falls. Another guy
told us he wouldn't be coming back, but we hadalready
payed, so we were kind of pissed! But he came back and thought itwas very funny that we were worried! My friends and my boyfriend wentshopping after but I decided I was gonna stay at the ship, relaxing by
thepool.
Grand Cayman was beautiful, I had never seen water so clear! We took a taxito the 7 mile beach and stayed on the beach all day. 5$ to enter the
beach,5$ a chair, 10$ a matriss (very worth it) and
5$ for an umbrella (alsorecommand it) we got chairs
free, because people from another cruise lineleft
early and gave us their chairs! My boyfriend went sky diving with aboat that charged 45$ instead of 65$. He loved it.
Cozumel, loved it, we booked with the Ship this time, 41$/person, Catamaranride with snorkel and 1 hour at the beach (beer and Margaritas included)
TheMexicans were very funny and party people! We were
dancing and having agreat time! Than we took a taxi
to the city to go shopping, nothing reallyspecial
though.
The food at the ship was very good. I recommand everybody to go to JohnnyRockets, even if there is a big waiting line, it goes fast.
The only thing we thought they could improve on is having the free drinkscloser to the pool (Ice tea and lemonade) because they are inside at thevery end of the buffet restaurant, so you have to get dressed to go getsomething to drink or to eat. Our friends told us that with Carnival'sDestiny, the hamburgers, pizza and drinks were outside, close to the
pools,so they could just walk up to get food.
We did not try the paying restaurant, we did not think it was worth it topay 20$ when you have great food at the dining room! They have a midnightbuffet only once during the week, and we were too tired to go!!
The shows were great, it's sad that you can't take pictures because I wouldhave liked to show everybody what it was like! Especially the ice show!
My boyfriend proposed on Captain's night, and we are getting married January31st, 2004, and booked with Princess cruise line, (Dawn Princess)SouthernCaribbean, and this time we will fly
because we are leaving from San Juan!It will be
different to have a smaller ship, since the Voyager is thebiggest!
