Ship: Sunbird
Sailing Date: November 17th, 2000
Itinerary: Atlantic crossing and Caribbean
Me and my dad sailed from Tenerife to Barbados on bird sunbird. when we
arrived in tenerife it was very hot and as a teenager then i just wanted
to get to ship and i didnt know what to exspect as id never been on a ship
before in my life so when we got up dockside to the ship it was a
brilliant sight knowing that that big white thing was going to be my home
for the next two weeks.
Anyway once aboard we were directed to one of her lounges where we had a
short wait whilst the crew who were very friendly and helpful got our
cruise cards ready and directed us to our cabin.
Once at our cabin which was on deck A my first feeling was its tiny but as
if that mattered i wasnt going to be doing anythink but sleep in there so
when the crew bought our luggage it was time to explore and what fun it
was, although at the time i didnt do much exploring once i found the chart
room one of many bars aboard ship.
Anyway during the cruise the food, staff and entertainment aboard were
second to none the staff always on hand to help food best ive ever seen
and tasted and entertainment well the bars were brilliant especially at
the end of a long day exploring many of the islands and excursions laid on
for us a drink in the chart room watching the sun go down.
Some of the excursions we went on which were organised by airtours
operaters at the time were a submarine trip to the corals of st. lucia
which was fab also we got to go to the rainforest and a pirate ship in
aruba all of which was great fun and well wortha visit.
With cruising its up to what you do wether you go on shore excursions or
wether you just want to go ashore by yourself or stay aboard with so many
choices.
Me and my dad really enjoyed sailing sunbird meeting loads of new people
all very friendly and welcoming espeically on the first night where we all
sat down for our evening meal and made a few friends who naturally we
ended up going around with on the cruise.
Although not everything was plan sailing like the way they handled the
departure from the ship in Barbados. We had to leave our luggage outside
our cabins the night before depature and on the day of departure we were
told to go the the Oaklohoma lougne where we would be checked out it was a
hot day and with over 600 passengers checking of the ship that day and
with no cold drinks offered there were not many happy faces.
Also at the airport which was tiny we were told you couldnt smoke and
there wasnt any bars so again not happy although the crew on the flight
home was great.
Overall on a scale of 1-10 10 being excellent
ship 8
crew 10
food 10
entertainment 8
shore excursions 9
transfers to and from ship 5
