I am forced to leave out numerous details as this is not an essay. From January to April, 2016, I paid Viking Cruises for a no risk cancellation trip from Paris to Marseilles that would commence in Paris on the 21st of September and end in Marseilles on the 2nd of October.

I decided to personally extend my trip to Madrid and Paris with my own bookings for hotel and transport from Madrid to Paris. The only part that Viking participated in was my flights from San Francisco to Madrid via KLM which was offered at a discounted business class price. Viking did not offer me round trip flights from Palm Springs to San Francisco nor Madrid to Paris. Those three flights were booked through American Express with the domestic flights using United Airlines.

I arrived at Palm Springs Airport at 6 in the morning on the 12th of September , and left this airport at about 3 pm. Before departure on the United flight 7:30 am, the officials had us disembark due to mechanical problems. I tried to alert the single female attendant about our need to connect in San Francisco at 1:45 pm, but she kept insisting that she had a list and we would be called. At about 11 am, I called KLM to try to cancel the flight and they told me only Viking could cancel my flight. At noon or a little later I was told by the sole United attendant we were not on the list because we had not booked our entire trip with United affiliates.

I spent hours on a cell phone in each hand from 11 am to about 2:30pm trying to see what I could do. All Viking was interested in was selling us into flights that were about $1,000.00 more, this after we paid $150.00 more than was expected for help on the original deal. I still did not know how we would get out of Palm Springs. Ten minutes before our flight (now delayed 5 hours) was announced as air ready, the attendant tells us to get on the flight. I had no new connections to Madrid since I did not even know how I was going to get out of Palm Springs. At about 2:30pm, I told Viking to cancel. They told me to email them. I must have heard the email address incorrectly as when I got home and looked at my computer, it was sent back undelivered.

No more details, and there are many! I booked a plane to Seattle as I was so hurt about my planned vacation. We stayed away from the 14th of September to the 28th. I got home and found out that nothing had been cancelled. The only compensation I got was a refund from United for my round trip from Palm Springs to San Francisco. Stay away from these two companies. I have lost $25,000.00 as it stands.
