Itinerary: Grand European tour

As a US military member, my wife and her parents purchased this cruise over a year in advance to accomodate my rather unpredictable military assignment cycle. We decided to splurge for a "once-in-a-lifetime" vacation and purchased the Veranda Suite for our Grand European cruise that cost close to $20,000 per couple. What a mistake. We had some difficulties with the room heat/ac and the bathroom had a constant odor to it, but was extremely upset about Viking's decision to stack ships one next to another on single docks, totally blocking the ability to enjoy the sites from our balcony. I took this as a Viking decision to save money by paying for less docking spaces. I routinely saw this during our cruise on other Viking ships as well. I would have addressed this with the ship's hotel manage, but he had a personal consumption issue (observed by guests and Viking subordinates) that affected his ability to interact with the guests.

Once finished, I addressed all the concerns with Viking and asked for a fair amount of money to be refunded to my credit card since we could not enjoy the amenities of an upgraded room we had paid for among the other issues.

After several months, with Viking continually only offering discounts to travel again, I decided to write this review. Their customer service managers refuse to provide anything other than vouchers, I expressed I am not able to continually predict my leave schedule and they refuse to listen and the vouchers expire after 1 year, I doubt I would ever use them anyways after this experience. I wonder why they are so unsupportive of the US military and the uncertainties of leave schedules, too bad. Please also notice that the BBB has given them a grade of "F" and revocated their accreditation in May 2015. I am not the only one who has had issues. Please re-consider Viking cruise, they are not a great customer service company.

The food was good, better than other cruises

Do not recommend upgrading to the Veranda Suite, lack of a view, broken heating systems, bathroom odor.

take all the included excursions, definitely see the musical performance in Vienna.

Would be a good cruise if the issues I mentioned were addressed.
