Should You Buy Trip Insurance from Disney for Disney Cruises?

When it comes to cruise trip insurance, Disney cruises are much like any other, in the sense that it is recommended that you have some form of travel insurance before you take the cruise. Most travelers have some form of basic insurance that can cover them during their travels. If you don't have an existing insurance policy that covers basic travel, or require an extension, Disney cruises offer the option of trip insurance when purchasing any Disney cruise vacation package.

About the Policy

The Disney cruise insurance policy is a solid one. It offers a set of basic coverage for which most travelers are looking. It covers trip cancellation, interruption and delays; lost property; and medical fees. It also provides extended coverage, if required; this includes emergency medical evacuation.

Why Should You Buy It?

It is beneficial to sign up for Disney cruise travel insurance considering the investment you make into the holiday cruise. When you sign up for Disney cruises, you pay well in advance. Therefore, if for some personal reason you cannot make it for the cruise and end up cancelling, you will not be eligible for a full refund. This is where Disney's cruise insurance comes in handy. Think of it as a protection coverage for your investment against unforeseen changes.

Even if you have basic coverage, it also helps to get specific travel-related coverage. For example, if you are taking advantage of the amazing discounts on an off-season tour, say during hurricane season, it makes good sense to seek coverage against the trip being disrupted due to an excessively rough hurricane. During such an event, you may have to extend your trip due to port closures and so on. It can lead to an addition of costs that can be claimed if you have the right coverage. The same goes for lost property. If you lose your bags while travelling due to theft, or going by the above example, due to unruly weather, you can get compensated if you are insured for it. This minimizes the loss to some extent.

The beauty of Disney insurance coverage is that although adults (18 and above) have to pay the full cost of the coverage, children are included. What this means is that if you are a family of 4, all get covered for the cost of 2 adults. Disney cruise travel insurance is also highly recommended for senior citizens. Most passengers above the age of 50 are required to pay a slight premium over rates applicable to younger passengers. The older you are, the higher your premium. However, senior citizens are bound to find good deals with Disney.

Rule of Thumb

In general, before you sign on any insurance policy, be sure to read through the policy carefully. Know what is excluded from the coverage and what is included. This way you know exactly what you're in for in case any unforeseen situation arises.
