Sailing the Mediterranean Sea means choosing a route that stops that several of the 23 ports of all dotting this exotic coast line. The basic breakdown of the routes is between eastern and western ports. It is rare than an Eastern line will cross into a Western port and vice versa. Keep in mind that some countries like Spain, Italy and Portugal have many ports while other countries are just discovering cruise and tourism revenue and have few ports. Ports often included in the eastern route include Rome, Athens, Istanbul, Monte Carlo and Greece. Western routes include big name stops like Israel, France and the Balearic Islands.
