Arkansas River Cruise Highlights

The Arkansas River, situated in the midst of the spectacular Rocky Mountains, is the most popular river in the United States. The river's source is the lovely Arkansas River Valley. Mountain peaks extend 14,000 feet above the river's gorge. The Arkansas River offers a variety of unique river tours that thrill tourists with amazing scenery and incredible river experiences. Take a day trip on the river or book a multi-day trip. Everything from family-oriented tours to adventure tours are available.

White Water Rafting Adventure

Bighorn Canyon, Brown's Canyon, and Royal Gorge provide rafting adventures for beginners as well as experienced paddlers. The most popular rafting adventure for experienced paddlers is Royal Gorge. Trips can be booked for half- or full-day tours. Royal Gorge is not for the faint of heart. This trip is recommended for Class IV or V rafters, and those in good physical shape, but not for beginners. The waves are enormous and the drops very steep. The rapids in this narrow canyon have names like Sledgehammer, Wellslammer, the Narrows, and Boateater. Sunshine Falls are very famous.

Bighorn Sheep Canyon has rapids that are easier for beginners around the Sangre de Cristo mountain range, where the rapids are Class II or III, before taking on the more demanding Class III-IV rapids of Rock Falls, Spikebuck, and Shark's Tooth following a buffet lunch. Half-day trips are for tourists whose time is limited but still want to experience 2 to 3 hours of whitewater rafting.

Brown's Canyon's rapids are Class III and above. This trip is recommended for rafters 8 years old and up. This trip lasting 5 to 6 hours rafts through the Pinball, Zoom Flume, the Staircase, and the famous Seidel's Suckhole. Also worth visiting as part of your rafting adventure is the Brown's Canyon Wilderness Study Area.

Fishing Trips

The area between Buena Vista and Canon City is the most popular section of the Arkansas River for fly fishing. Fishermen from all over the contry flock to the river every year in the hopes of catching "the big one." This area approximately 75 miles long and 75 to 100 feet wide, has deep pools creating a perfect habitat for the thousands of Rainbow Trout, usually measuring between 13 and 15 inches. Some lucky fishermen have caught rainbows 18 inches or larger. Caution should be taken when the river swells, especially during the spring and summer months. Fishermen should look for roads that parallel the river and aren't that easily accessible from the highways for the best fishing opportunities.

Specialty Tours

Private trips can be arranged for the people in your group. Private tours can be booked for family reunions, birthdays, multi-day adventure tours, or any special event you choose. Among the specialty combo trips are one and a half or two day all inclusive trips. Lunches and camping by the river are included. Special camping and raft and stay packages are available for your group. Learn a new skill on an inflatable rafting trip. Go at your own pace while experiencing the challenge of whitewater rafting. For a truly unique experience, test your skill on a raft/inflatable kayak trip. Raft the river in the morning, stop for a delicious lunch, then finish with an exciting inflatable kayak trip down the rapids for an inforgettable experience.
